Title: Suit Post by Iceman on Jun 29th, 2007, 1:02pm Jimmy is of average height & he is traveling in a train, as his tall brother forgot his suitcase, so he is bringing it back to him. They will meet at the railroad station, where he will give him his suitcase & then return home right away. But Jimmy has put a spare suit of his in the suitcase, which his brother doesn't need, and it is identical to the suit Jimmy is wearing. Why? |
||||
Title: Re: Suit Post by Sameer on Jun 29th, 2007, 1:10pm Maybe the tall brother works at a laundary station and Jimmy is just bringing his suit to get dry cleaned!!! |
||||
Title: Re: Suit Post by fatball on Jun 29th, 2007, 1:34pm Maybe Jimmy is the train operator and the suit is his uniform, he is giving it to his brothr for similar reason put forward by Sameer? |
||||
Title: Re: Suit Post by denis on Jun 29th, 2007, 2:10pm Suppose Jimmy lives in New York and his tall brother lives in Los Angeles. Jimmy has a fear of flying. By the time Jimmy gets to Los Angeles train station, he will need a change of clothing. By packing his spare suit in his brother's suitcase, Jimmy need not bring two suitcases with him on his trip. |

I meant that the suit is identical in all respects, so it doesn't need to be cleaned. |

Title: Re: Suit Post by Archae on Jun 29th, 2007, 2:56pm Is Jimmy's brother a tailor? |

Title: Re: Suit Post by Iceman on Jun 29th, 2007, 3:18pm No. |
||||
Title: Re: Suit Post by Archae on Jun 29th, 2007, 3:36pm Will the suit be returned to Jimmy? Is it for someone other than Jimmy's brother/Jimmy himself? Perhaps he got a suit for his brother's partner or his son, who is the same size as Jimmy is. |

Title: Re: Suit Post by Iceman on Jun 30th, 2007, 7:27am It is just a suit he usually wears. |

Title: Re: Suit Post by Grimbal on Jun 30th, 2007, 1:23pm Maybe Jimmy wants to give his brother the opportunity to return the favor. |

Title: Re: Suit Post by Iceman on Jun 30th, 2007, 1:27pm No. Think of all that has been said in the riddle. I haven't mentioned certain things just so one can admire the view. ;) |
||||
Title: Re: Suit Post by Grimbal on Jun 30th, 2007, 1:52pm "My dear brother, should I decease before you do, this is the suit I want to be buried in." or Jimmy is a little retarded. When he saw the brother's suit all alone in the big suitcase, he thought it could use some company. or Jimmy and his brother need to wear an identical suit for some performance. He lends one suit as a model for the tailor. |

Title: Re: Suit Post by Iceman on Jun 30th, 2007, 3:28pm Nope. |

Title: Re: Suit Post by ima1trkpny on Jun 30th, 2007, 3:33pm Jimmy commited a crime in which his face was masked but his suit was distinctive so now he is setting up his brother to be found with the suit and caught instead of himself? Or to confuse the cops by giving them two suspects to track instead of one to give him better odds of getting away with it? |
||||
Title: Re: Suit Post by Sameer on Jun 30th, 2007, 3:53pm Jimmy likes to have spare clothes at his brother's house so that when he visits them for vacation if he forgets some things he can readily find it there... sounds like a nice way to travel light ;) |

Title: Re: Suit Post by denis on Jul 2nd, 2007, 5:02pm Is the fact that the suit is identical to the one he is wearing significant? Could Jimmy have packed a different color suit of his in this scenario? |

Title: Re: Suit Post by JiNbOtAk on Jul 4th, 2007, 2:41am Well, maybe he's gonna spill something on his suit, and then commit some crime, then dash and change into his good suit, which somehow exonerates him from the crime. Sounds really far fetched... |

Title: Re: Suit Post by Iceman on Jul 5th, 2007, 5:22am No! You are right aside from the spilling part. So, what is the answer? |

Title: Re: Suit Post by JiNbOtAk on Jul 5th, 2007, 6:49pm He's planning to have lunch in the train, hence the canteen. He knows its gonna be a messy affair, hence the extra suit. But you did say he didn't spill anything...hmm. Ah, he is going to work. Now, what kind of work does a man perform with a taller guy for a partner, and would undoubtedly soil his suit ? An undertaker, circus performer, waiter ? |

Title: Re: Suit Post by denis on Jul 7th, 2007, 9:30pm He lies down and hides while waiting for the train to leave. When the train starts to leave he gets up and jumps onto the train illegally. Then, because his clothes is dirty from lying down, he goes to the washroom and changes into his good clothes that is inside the suitcase. hmmm. I don't think this is the intended answer as the suits could be different without affecting the outcome. The puzzle states that the suits need to be identical. |
