Title: Benny
Post by Iceman on Jun 22nd, 2007, 10:27am
Benny is in topnotch health and he doesn't have a death whish, but he is waiting for the train lying down. Why?

Title: Re: Benny
Post by Archae on Jun 22nd, 2007, 10:44am
Maybe he's just tired, or is more comfortable lying down.  You never said he was lying on the tracks, so I am assuming he's waiting for the train on the platform.  Therefore, lying down is not very bizarre at all.  :D

He isn't tired.

The train is [hide]his dog's (or other pet's) name and Benny is playing with it.  He is waiting for the dog to lie down, not himself.[/hide]

Is he lying on train tracks?  If not, I don't understand the riddle.

Title: Re: Benny
Post by Iceman on Jun 22nd, 2007, 12:58pm
I said that he wasn't tired. So why would he be lying down if he wasn't tired? And when you are waiting for the train, you are usually waiting at the station, certainly not lying in your bed at home.

Nah.

Is he [hide]inside the train, perhaps waiting for the train to reach his stop?[/hide]

Let's get the obvious out of the way:
Is Benny human? If yes, man or woman? If no, a plant/domesticated animal/wild animal?
Is the train carrying passengers or just cargo, or maybe it's just a model train not carrying anything?

Title: Re: Benny
Post by Sameer on Jun 22nd, 2007, 2:19pm
Maybe Benny is lazy like me and lies down when he should be sitting  ;) ...

Title: Re: Benny
Post by Archae on Jun 22nd, 2007, 2:26pm
So he's not lying down on train tracks.  He is lying down, waiting for the train.  Maybe he wants to put an ear to the ground to see if he can hear the train approaching, since he saw a documentary on Native American tactics the previous night.
Maybe the train is going to be a long time, and there are no open seats, so he doesn't want to stand waiting for it, so he lies down.
Personally, if I saw someone lying down at a station waiting for a train, I would not be very shocked or surprised.

Is this similar somewhat to the train riddle (a man steps on a train, a woman in a white dress yells get off!) ??? If no, you don't have to be tired or in your bed to be lying down, you could just want to relax.

A bit off topic, but Roy, next time leave the text color standard, please.

That is pretty much unimportant.

He is not lazy.

Good idea, but that is not the case here.

Nope. Regardless, Benny isn't tired, and when you lie down like that, you might fall to sleep and miss the train.

Is he waiting at a station?  And is he lying down of his own volition?

Is he a train robber, lying in the bushes off to the side of the tracks waiting for the train?

Title: Re: Benny
Post by Iceman on Jun 23rd, 2007, 7:05am
Nope. He doesn't rob trains.

I'll repeat again just to be on the safe side: Benny isn't tired or lazy and he is lying down of his own volition.  ;)

I guess this riddle is turned out to be the riddle when you ask yes or no questions. So spank my butt and call me crazy.  :-[   ;)

Title: Re: Benny
Post by Archae on Jun 23rd, 2007, 7:19am
Sorry, I meant to be proposing that last scenario as a solution: that he was a train robber lying in wait (not because he was tired or lazy, but to hide himself).  It wasn't meant to be a yes or no question.  I guess I should just put periods after my guesses.
You're crazy Iceman.  (Sorry, not going to spank your butt.)

Title: Re: Benny
Post by FiBsTeR on Jun 23rd, 2007, 7:33am
Is this during a time of war?
Is Benny playing a game?
Is Benny with a family member/friend that is reason why Benny wants to lie down?

It's during war, and Benny doesn't want to get shot while waiting for his extraction.
Benny is playing hide-and-go-seek with a friend/family member while waiting for the train and wants to avoid detection.

[hide] he is laying down because he is hiding since he does NOT want to go on one of those trains that brings prisoners to the death camps or jails[/hide]

[hide] he is laying down because he does not want to be caught while waiting to stow away onto the train [/hide]

Title: Re: Benny

That's not it either.

Title: Re: Benny

Is he lying down so as not to be seen (i.e. hiding)?
Oh, wait.  That's a yes or no question.
OK: Benny is being hunted/chased, and is lying down, hiding, near train tracks.  Once the train comes, he can get up and stowaway on the passing train to extricate himself.

Title: Re: Benny
Post by Iceman on Jun 23rd, 2007, 12:34pm
Benny is not being chased right then. Perhaps he is wanted dead or alive though. Go figure.   ;)

Benny used to live happily in a quiet little village. One day, the Big Government decided to pull a new railroad track cutting his nice village into two parts. And worst of all, these tracks pass right below Benny's bedroom window. As during summer nights are hot in his part of the country, he has to sleep with the windows open. As he doesn't have the money to buy another house elsewhere, he's stuck in this miserable situation. Every night at 3:20, an awful long cargo train passes by. Benny is lying in his bed, his eyes wide open, he wonders how many years of jail he would get after sabotaging those tracks. It must be worth the risk. He just hopes there aren't any railroad track near the jail.

.....nope. Plus for the imagination though. And it is good to know that I, Iceman, am not the only one with quite an imagination out there. I am not alone! There are more like me! We are not alone! Universe is not that big anymore! Btw, stop me if you think that I am talking out of my rear. Sometime I think that I am Ace Ventura.   ::)

Benny is wanted by the police and is lying down out of sight so that other passengers won't identify him. Then, when the train comes, he can get up, get on the train, and stay in the bathroom the whole time avoiding detection.

Could you confirm that it could well be a model train?

What about: His name is Gulliver and he is taking the subway.  Of course, he had to crawl in the subway station, and couldn't stand or even sit.

Or: the train comes the next day only.  He tries to sleep, but cannot (we know he is not tired).

By the way, how old is Benny?  :)

No but you are probably right about the part when he gets on the train, which is not necessary though.  ;)Oh and he is also wanted.

Wasn't there a western movie where a guy was hiding under the platform?  I'm not sure it was a train station, but mixing up a few movies, you could have 3 bad guys waiting for the train, and the good guy is under the platform ready to shoot them by surprise.

Title: Re: Benny
Post by Iceman on Jun 25th, 2007, 8:11am
It was some other movie. ;)

Some guesses are fine, meaning that I haven't worded the riddle well enough to exclude them. Maybe my answers to your questions compensate for it.

Title: Re: Benny
Post by FiBsTeR on Jun 25th, 2007, 8:20am
Is Benny in plain sight by other people at the train station?
Is there someone/something at the train station that Benny does not want to be seen by?
Is Benny armed?
Does Benny's occupation make him capable of murder? (e.g. a teacher would not be, but a police officer, an intelligence officer, a criminal would be)
Will Benny get up immediately when the train arrives?
Will Benny board the train conventionally? (i.e. through the same entrance that other passengers would)

Are there old ladies that cross the street into the train station, yelling for Tom to hurry up or he'll miss his train, waking Tom up, making him alert for the killers?

EDIT: Another thought is maybe [hide]Benny is waiting for someone to leave the train, not to enter it.[/hide]

Title: Re: Benny
Post by Iceman on Jun 25th, 2007, 9:13am
He doesn't want to be seen right then, not really. He isn't armed right then but he is a killer. When the train arrives he will [hide]get up soon, but not quite immediately, something like that[/hide].  ;)

There's a lot of answers already, giving out many plausible answers. I'm gonna start guessing which movie it came from.  :P

[hide]Mission Impossible ?[/hide]

[hide]U.S. Marshall ?[/hide]

[hide]While You Were Sleeping ? [/hide] ;D

I've only seen The Good, The Bad, and The Ugly, where the 3 guys stare at each other for maybe half an hour at the end--the best part of the movie!  :D Anyway, I thought this would be a riddle I could guess without external knowledge.  :(

Why use a train though. He could have just went to the blacksmith or something like in Pirates of the Caribean. I take it Benny wasn't the smartest criminal in the West.
