Title: A guy on a cliff
Post by Locke64 on Feb 12th, 2007, 6:13pm
Parts of a man (bone fragments, fingernails, hair, etc.) were found on the side of a cliff inside a mass of crumpled and melted metal.  After being found, he won an award.  What happened?

This one's going to give people a chance to tell some whoppers.

[hide]He crashed his plane there after enemy forces remotely took control of it.[/hide]

He took with him the master print of the entire season  of "Survivor" before release to network affiliates so it could not air.

Here is a spoiler image from the very last episode to be aired in 2012

Based on a true story that happend here (Israel) a long time ago:

[hide]His plane broke. He knew that if he'll abort the plane, it would crash in a populated area, killing many. So, instead, he manually flew his plane into the cliffside, thereby saving all those lives at the price of his own. [/hide]

Actually, I believe this is the urban myth about [hide]the guy who attaches a jet engine to his car only to lose control when he tries it out and impact a cliff. The award would be the Darwin Award for killing himself in an incredibly stupid manner.[/hide]

Starting the "pretending we don't have the solution" phase, I thought of another possibility.

The guy was atempting the first flight over the Channel (between France and England).  He managed to reach England and its magnificent white cliffs.

Critics (before someone else does):
- At that time the airplanes were mostly made of wood and tissue.
- The story isn't historical.

Ahhh, what solution?  ::)

I know this story! This was one Charles D. who was a lesser known motorcycle jumper (compared to Evel Knievel) but who insisted he would jump the Grand Canyon whether or not the Government allowed him to, unlike Knievel...  well, it barely made the news and it took several years and many search crews to finally dig up his remains, but that is what they found when they finally did. Nevertheless, he beat Evel Knievel's record for the farthest non-rocket-assisted motorcycle jump and most broken bones in this one landmark jump...

8)  Vroom-vroom!

NO really, there is now a landmark where he landed!

P.S. Grimbal, I like your (new?) bamboo icon...

Is it only an urban myth, or is it true? if it is just a myth, bring in the Mythbusters!

I loaded http://florian.net/pic/65x65/grimbal.php?.gif into a browser location bar and refreshed the page until your script loaded this image, I then saved it to disk from my browser, uploaded it to one of my web sites via ftp, and linked to it for my above post...

Actually, I would have done the same.

But it is not new.  You probably just haven't seen (or noticed) it before.

There are Darwin Awards for all kinds of stupid acts. I'm pretty sure there is one for a person who tried to rob a store with a grenade. It bounced off a cop's riot shield and blew the attacker up. :o

Darwin Awards : Honoring those who improve the species by accidentally removing themselves from it,...thereby ensuring that the next generation is one idiot smarter.

List (http://darwinawards.com/darwin/)of previous Darwin Award Winners..

More particularly, there is this "confirmed bogus" Darwin Award (http://darwinawards.com/darwin/darwin1995-04.html).
