Title: Beetle on a book
Post by Desert Lizard on Nov 29th, 2006, 6:13am
A man lies dead. Nearby are a pile of bricks, and a beetle on top of a book. How did he die?

Actually, the beetle is probably more than "near" the man.  It's probably on him.  Maybe he could crawl away before expiring, though.  It's really a shame he even bought it in the first place.

He had an accident involving trying to lower a load of bricks in a barrel by means of a rope, involving several mishaps of heavy bricks, broken barrels, jammed fingers and mid-air collisions (the beetle and book have nothing to do with it).  ::)

He is an etymologist who was leaning against the bricks while reading about an extremely rare and much prized species of beetle, not seen in many years and now believed to be extinct. Just then he noticed a beetle of this species crawling on his book. His excitement was so great that he had a heart attack and died.

The guy was reading a book sitting against a wall.
A New Beetle car missed a turn and ran over the guy into the wall.

You're close Grimbal.  Very close.  What's the book for?

Funny.  Not the right answer, though.

Nope, but you made a big step in the right direction.  Sorry for stealing your topic Lizard.  I'm sure I know the right answer, though.

I'm assuming he was underneath his car trying to fix it with the book on how to fix it, when suddenly, he did fix it, and it ran him over and crashed into a nearby wall.

If it were me, I would accept this as an alternate answer.  Lizard owns his riddle so you'll have to wait for her to return.  The original is still out there, though.

The Beatle (since everyone is suddenly spelling it this way) is John Lennon. What the bricks and book did to get into heaven is a good question....

Or, he was fixing his VW Beetle, and had it up on bricks while he worked underneath. But unfortunately, he skipped the part about safety precautions, such as setting the brake (and the inadvisability of using bricks to raise the car). It rolled off on top of him.

And there we have the intended answer, John Lennon and all.
