Title: Train Ride
Post by flamingdragon on Nov 28th, 2006, 4:40pm
A man is returning from Switzerland by train. If he had been in a non-smoking car he would have died. Why?

Seems a bit too open to me.  I'll bite, though.  [hide]The train crashed into another, destroying many of the cars in a horrible accident.  The smoking car, thoughtfully placed at the rear of the train to limit the effects of smoke on the other passengers, was almost entirely unaffected and the passengers inside survived.[/hide]

No,
and it gets a lot easier if u ask questions b4 u randomly throw an answer out there, that doesn't stop me from doing it though.  ;D

Well, then.  I guess I'll come up with some yesernos.

Did the man smoke?
Was there smoke in the smoking car?
Was anyone else smoking in the smoking car?
Was there any smoke source other than the cigarettes?

I half-expect [hide]no, yes, possibly, yes.[/hide]

Yes

So close.

Was there smoke in the non-smoking car?
Was the smoking car attached to the non-smoking cars at all times?

It was [hide]on fire[/hide].

Did he work for the train company?

Where was he returning to?

It seems like questions usually don't help with these, because the question that you need to ask is so obscure that you will never ask it, and it's better to just think of the weirdest thing possible and guess it. But you wanted questions, so I complied.

LOL, don't put questions just cause I said to, then I have to answer them.  ;)
I disagree, I believe that questions help.

No, and you can only ask yes or no questions, you should know that.

Would his death been by murder, by accident, or by natural causes?

(I know it isn't a yes or no question, but please recognize I could break into three yes or nos. It's just easier to do it this way when you have a short list of possibilities.)

Title: Re: Train Ride
Post by flamingdragon on Nov 28th, 2006, 7:23pm
The death would be by murder.
That fact helps u a lot, good question.  ;)

And the where he's going question I suppose could be broken into yes or no questions to if u asked a lot so i'll answer it:

Not important to the riddle whatsoever.

An assassin had been hired to kill him. The hit man knew he was a non-smoker and rigged the non-smoking cars to explode half-way through the trip. The man however decided to follow the hot brunette into the smoking car hoping for a chance to light her cigarette. Just as the man shut the door behind him, the non-smoking cars blew killing everybody inside.

Title: Re: Train Ride

These yesernos are really out of my area.  I'll give it another shot I guess.

Did the method of murder involve fire or smoke?
Was the man romantically involved with his murderer?
Did he know his murderer was on the train?

I assume u mean would the murder have involved fire and smoke.

Sorry.  Haha.  I meant murderer, not murder.  Obviously the answer is no.

I really do like all kinds of questions involving riddles.  I don't feel I should discriminate against any one particular type of question based solely on its choice of lifestyle.

Hmm... now that I think about this more, I might have heard it somewhere.  The details are fuzzy, though.  I seem to recall something about the lighting.  Maybe it is nighttime?

I wonder: is it nighttime in the riddle?

Answering these questions straight out is not against the rules.

Shoot, I remember this now.  I was well off track.  I guess I had a bit of tunnel-vision there.   As soon as you said the murderer was on the train it all came rushing back.  Ah, it feels good to see again.

I believe u have it, but that one hint isn't the entire riddle.

Not that u should say anymore!
Don't ruin the riddle for everyone else.

Oh. This one. Nice variant with the smoking car, though.

There is a quibble about how apt a certain word is, but then I didn't leave room for other interpretations, did I?

Well, it is one of the more common What Happened riddles around here...  The smoking car variant is indeed the best version I've heard, though!

I prefer the SWAG method.  8)

[hide]The would be killer was using a gun with a laser sight. The man saw the laser in the smoke and knew to take cover. [/hide]

Edit: Replied before I even realized there was a page two. Guess I was in the dark about that.
