Title: Reflection
Post by Iceman on Nov 1st, 2006, 7:04am
Tom is at John's in his new apartment, and he gives him a guided tour. At the end of the tour, John says that wallpapers will arrive tomorrow, and furniture later. Tom says: 'How about a bet? If I enter your bedroom and in a couple of seconds see myself there, but not in the window, you owe me 50 bucks.' John replies: 'You whish! Do you have a picture, or an object on you that can reflect your image?' Tom says no. 'I know your little dirty tricks: did you left something in the bedroom when I wasn't looking?' Tom says no. 'You got a bet!' - replies John. What happened soon after is that John lost the bet. How?

Well could he have [hide]held his hand up and claimed that he didn't specify what part of himself he had to see[/hide]? That, or he [hide]looks out the window and sees his reflection in a mirror across the street that's in an open room[/hide].

He [hide] took a saw and saw himself.  His pride is worth more than his left foot.[/hide]

No to both.

If Tom looks out the window, all he can see is the ocean, and nothing else, so no.  ;)

He urinates on the floor.  I really don't know why John keeps considering Tom as his best friend.

[hide]He saw his shadow on the wall[/hide]?

Title: Re: Reflection

Nope.

Title: Re: Reflection
Post by Grimbal on Nov 3rd, 2006, 3:01pm
He reflected on the stupidity of his friend to stay with him.  And saw himsef in the reflection.

hahaha that was hilarious Grimbal.
I think the house is new and the floors are shiny and you can see your reflection..  8) or you can see the reflection of yourself in the glass of the window? Or maybe it is too close to the ocean and through the open window the water comes into bedroom again making a reflective surface...

No to both. Don't let my nick confuse you: I still have alien tricks.    :P

maybe tom set his yacht out to sea with a large picture of himself stuck on to the sail

Title: Re: Reflection

Now I say that Tom sees nothing if he looks out the window because it is lunar eclipse, just to be on the safe side. So the window is not important.  ;)

But if it is darker outside the window than inside, then Tom's reflection in the glass of the window would be pretty clear and easy to see. At least, that's what I tend to find happens when I try to look outside from a lighted room at night... ::)

Wow, that was easy after the hint you gave, Iceman :P

I say that the window is not important, and then I get three guesses suggesting otherwise.  ::) I do have my tricks, but you better trust me on this one.  :P

Title: Re: Reflection

Well since there's no wallpaper, perhaps he [hide]saw his reflection in whatever was going to be covered with wallpaper. Maybe John lives in a house of mirrors. What a weird guy.[/hide]

Negative.  8)

Tom and John and identical twins.. so looking at the other is kinda like looking at urself?  ::)

Maybe he smokes something heavy and experiences an OBE?*

Maybe Tom is a bed, completely identical to John's bed.**

Or maybe [hide] he takes a picture of himself with his hand-held phone.  It is not an object that can reflect his image. [/hide]

No to both.

He takes a nap and dreams of himself.

Title: Re: Reflection

He cut himself with a saw. In other words, he saw himself. Well, sawed, but...yeah...

Title: Re: Reflection

He writes the letter C on his arm, and "C's" himself?

Title: Re: Reflection
Post by TheNumberScott on Nov 9th, 2006, 11:06am
Along the same lines, he could somehow contort his body into the shape of a C, and that would really be "C'ing" his whole self, instead of just his arm.

Title: Re: Reflection
Post by TheNumberScott on Nov 14th, 2006, 3:58pm
how close are they to the ocean? like, on the ocean? perhaps he jumps out the window and "sea"s himself?

I have a feeling this is the answer. You and your winking smilies.

Title: Re: Reflection
Post by TheNumberScott on Nov 14th, 2006, 4:03pm
If he sees nothing but ocean out the window, this would imply that that includes ground.

haha, I get it. He's not "in the window", he's out the window.

Are Tom and John [hide]identical twins[/hide]?

No winner yet.

You are on the right track.

He draws a picture of himself on those nice clean white walls (I always knew he was conceited!)

Title: Re: Reflection
Post by TheNumberScott on Nov 15th, 2006, 6:50pm
Well I'm glad I was on the right track, but I'm pretty much stumped now. Especially since I don't know what was right about it. I would have figured it would be the play on words part, but I already guessed the only other play on words I can think of, and although I thought it fit perfectly, I guess it didn't. So, I hope I helped someone out.

He draws a picture of himself in five seconds? Damn he is fast! He must be Superman or Flash.    :P

Title: Re: Reflection
Post by TheNumberScott on Nov 18th, 2006, 6:20pm
if that's on the right track, perhaps he writes the word "see" on his arm, and sees himself.

Title: Re: Reflection
Post by Iceman on Nov 19th, 2006, 4:13am
I see that you are close, and it seams to me that you are evading the right answer possibly because the way riddle is worded?  :-[ So here is a clue: [hide]he does write something, but not what you suggested[/hide].

Title: Re: Reflection
Post by Whiskey Tango Foxtrot on Nov 19th, 2006, 5:55am
Then he [hide]writes "himself" on himself or the walls.[/hide]

Title: Re: Reflection
Post by Iceman on Nov 19th, 2006, 6:20am
Yes, except for the fact that he [hide]writes myself instead, on the wall. His friend wont mind  because wallpapers will arrive tomorrow[/hide].

What is stupid about it? Icecalibur, slay Maverick for me..  ::)

Title: Re: Reflection

He's saying that he was stupid for not guessing it, exactly what I was saying to myself. Or himself.

You see no Maverick for me here.

Slay cchris as well while you are at it, because I don't get what he is saying. And if you can eat, feast on his flesh too. Got to stop watching Lord of the Rings. Bad influence.  :P

Don't worry riddlers, because soon I will start a new thread, called Reflection 2, and this sequel is even better.  8)

And Icecalibur, stay alert, I mean frosty, just in case someone really means that he, or she, doesn't like my riddle.   ::)

Since my saucer crashed on this forum. My saucer was damaged beyond repair, so I picked up some bad habits from riddlers.  ;)
