Title: Here is the first Post by Roy on Aug 17th, 2006, 2:40am Two planes start simultaneously from San Francisco and New York, each bound on a nonstop flight across the continent. In round figures,......2,500 miles between the cities. Each plane has a cruising speed of 250 miles an hour, and carries enough gasoline for ten hours. Which plane crashed and why? |

The one that was carried by God, since God is also no match for Superman. 4. The one that was piloted by a computer program that defeated Karpov. After the crash, this program was proclaimed terrorist, and it never played chess with Karpov again. Just with terrorists. 5. The one that wasn't made in USA. 6. The one that was made in USA, except for engines that were made in Bolivia. 7. The one that had a gremlin on the wing. 8. The one that had Oprah on the wing. 9. The one that had an Alabama tick, which sucked blood of passengers and then pilots. 10. The one that landed in the ocean, because pilots from Jamaica thought fluorescent algae are airport lights. 11. The one that set course for York instead of New York. 12. The one that hit a cloud frozen by Russian winter. The cloud was frozen in Moscow, Idaho. 13. The one that didn't had toilet. 14. The one that had just toilet and nothing else. 15. The one that had the toilet, but it couldn't flush. 16. The one that had just ladies room, so the men mutinied, changed the name of the plane to Bounty, and made pilots to set course for the nearest gas station. 17. The one that was vibrating because of the turbulence. This made women happy, but the men mutinied again. 18. The one that hit an iceberg. 19. The one that hit a weather balloon. 20. The one that hit an Alabama ladybird. 21. The one that didn't land. |

Title: Re: Here is the first Post by Grimbal on Aug 17th, 2006, 9:20am None of them crashed, or it wouldn't be a non-stop flight. |

Title: Re: Here is the first Post by Sameer on Aug 17th, 2006, 10:47am Grimbal, nonstop does not equal to not crashing.. nonstop just implies there is no intermediate stopover airport the plane has to land.. my answer would be both of them crashes.. it says the "cruising" speed of planes is 250 miles/hour. However both planes would need that additional fuel to go to that cruising altitude and then deccelerate from that altitude to land. |

Title: Re: Here is the first Post by Icarus on Aug 17th, 2006, 4:12pm The westbound flight did, because it had to go against the Jet Stream, while eastbound flight could take advantage of it. |

Title: Re: Here is the first Post by SWF on Aug 17th, 2006, 5:08pm Due to the wind, cross country flights from east to west typically take about 15% longer than west to east. |

Title: Re: Here is the first Post by Roy on Aug 18th, 2006, 5:02pm Not due to the wind, no |

Title: Re: Here is the first Post by Eigenray on Aug 18th, 2006, 5:32pm If they weigh the same at rest, the eastbound one would weigh about [link=http://www.google.com/search?q=4%282pi%2F%2824*60*60s%29%28250miles%2Fhour%29%2F%289.8m%2Fs%5E2%29].3%[/link] less... but that's negligible compared to the prevailing westerlies. |
