Title: Re: Polygamy Post by Roy on Jul 17th, 2006, 11:52pm Puffster: Yes, he was the priest marrying couples. BNC: Well in these forums solved problems would keep repeating themselves by other people but i just reworded it from a zen type card i remember reading with a guy bouncing on a trampoline and a message that said something like 'if you don't settle out your problems you will be destined to repeat them over and over and over....' but i suppose i'll change the message. |

Title: Re: Polygamy Post by towr on Jul 18th, 2006, 1:04am It would also work if polygamy was legal. You can't be charged with doing something legal, after all. |

Anyway, polygamy is allowed in various cultures and countries. So no need to make it legal; you can just find a situation were it already is. Mormons in the US can be legally polygamous, can't they? |

No. Polygamy has never been legal in the United States. In order for Utah to become a State in the U.S., they were required to make polygamy illegal. Those who still practice it do so by legally marrying only one of their brides. The others brides are only married in their own minds, and perhaps their local congregation's minds. Even the main body of the Morman church does not recognize such marriages anymore. While this is legal, most polygamists are guilty of fraud because they are unable to support their large families without government assistance, which they have to lie to get. |
