How did he die? ???

It's a cruel way to do it... other possibilities would catch Jason alive, and allow him to road the fields free.

Actually, I have absolutely no answer in mind. But it seemed an obvious trick in the puzzle. Maybe it'll help someone else :P

try drawing it up: a spring(answer springs to mind), an iron bar on his back(he isn't human), some food in front of him, it becomes pretty clear, add other phrases(allergic to cats, but not for a fear of death, trap alive) need i go on? ::)

Ah.. So I guess he shouldn't have escaped. At least I assume he didn't get named while roaming free.
