Title: Escape artist Post by Roy42 on Jul 8th, 2006, 10:01pm A prison in the middle of a large lake wakes one morning to find that a prisoner has escaped leaving a broken shoelace as evidence. The prisoner could not swim and it was about a mile back to shore. How has he done it? P.S since i am a newbie, sorry if my puzzles are really easy or if they've been posted by another already ;D ;D |

Title: Re: Escape artist Post by towr on Jul 10th, 2006, 12:51am It might have been a really shallow lake.. Of course that totally disregards the shoelace. |

Title: Re: Escape artist Post by Grimbal on Jul 10th, 2006, 2:48am Or possibly [hide] he was rescued by a giant on a flying bike. [/hide] http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0241527/ |

Title: Re: Escape artist Post by alien on Jul 10th, 2006, 3:55pm [hide]It was winter and the lake was frozen. You mentioned the 'broken' shoelace, and I think you can snap a shoelace like a twig if it is frozen enough. But why would anyone want do that?[/hide] ;) |

Title: Re: Escape artist Post by jess on Jul 11th, 2006, 7:09pm [hide]well, alien, i think you're right, but maybe he broke his shoelace because he wanted to let the people know he was gone. Afterall, he is an escape ARTIST, and the definition of an escape artist is "a performer who entertains by escaping from confinement" so i guess the shoelace was kindof like his trademark[/hide] |

Title: Re: Escape artist Post by evergreena3 on Jul 11th, 2006, 11:51pm I like the idea of the lake [hide]being frozen[/hide]. The broken shoelace could be [hide]left from when he was putting on his ice skates (don't worry about how he got them), and had to put his old laces into them[/hide]. |

Title: Re: Escape artist Post by Lozboz on Jul 12th, 2006, 1:01am The[hide] frozen lake[/hide] thing is better than my idea but I first thought; [hide] wouldn't the prison have bridges or boats docked for transport of food and stuff? [/hide] As for the shoelace, i disreguarded it completely. (sorry!) |

Title: Re: Escape artist Post by Roy42 on Jul 13th, 2006, 2:18am My answer agrees with alien; he skated off to his freedom on ice skates, one of which had a broken shoelace from the cold ;) |
||
Title: Re: Escape artist Post by Grimbal on Jul 13th, 2006, 4:48am I would say the broken shoelace is there only as a hint that he changed shoes. I don't think a shoelace can break from the cold when it is reasonably cold. |

Title: Re: Escape artist Post by Roy42 on Jul 13th, 2006, 5:09am Yeah, but what, it's just gonna break spontaniously for the purpose of this riddle? ::) |
||
Title: Re: Escape artist Post by Lozboz on Jul 13th, 2006, 6:12am Perhaps he[hide]skated ova the shoe lace and cut it.[/hide] |

Title: Re: Escape artist Post by Grimbal on Jul 13th, 2006, 6:15am The whole prison is there only for the purpose of the riddle. IMHO. :o |

Title: Re: Escape artist Post by alien on Jul 13th, 2006, 7:20am Believe it or not, this is my first riddle that I almost solved (ice skates, damn!) But then again, after poison and fixture riddle, I have ice on my mind all the time. From now on you can call me................ Iceman. 8) |

Title: Re: Escape artist Post by Roy on Jul 13th, 2006, 2:09pm Yeah, like the Drivers and pedestrians puzzle, the guy is only gay because the puzzle demands it. So now i shall call you iceman.... yeah, iceman, okayiceman, iceman, iceman, iceman, iceman, iceman, iceman, iceman, iceman, annoying isn't it iceman >:( okay, i think i'm done (puff...puff) |

Title: Re: Escape artist Post by alien on Jul 14th, 2006, 10:03am I played with puff-puff toy when I was a kid. I still do. :P Not a bad point Grimbal, but water is associated more to humans, since our bodies consist of significantly less water. Also, aliens are green humanoid specie, rather similar to humans, so instinctively you could call as "men" and "women", even though most of us are bisexuals. The rest of us are born as males or females. But the main reason is of esthetic nature, since Iceman sounds better than Icealien. |
