Title: Elevator Ride
Post by ladyslupe13 on May 19th, 2006, 3:21pm
Here's the riddle:

A man lives at the hundredth floor of a hotel and rides the elevator to the first floor every morning, crosses the street to go to work, comes back at night, and only rides the elevator up to the fiftieth floor and walks the other fifty flights.
WHY?

Because he's too stupid to bring an umbrella.  ;)

You're new here, ladyslupe13, so let me explain something. Icarus has a unique way of giving an answer to a riddle without actually giving   the answer to the riddle. It's one of the reasons I come here. Now, I'm assuming your original answer was  the very common [hideb] The man was a midget  and is able to reach the button for the first floor in the elevator every morning, but is only able to reach the 15th button when he comes back home. The way Icarus was hinting at was this riddle has been asked many times, usually with the man having an umbrella so he could reach the hundreth floor on the elevator.  [/hideb]  Am I making any sense here?

Well, either way, welcome to the forums! :)

Barnabas, it's the 50th floor, not the 15th.

Even so, this is an extremely common riddle, and it doesn't matter what floor he rode to, the point is that he didn't press the button for his floor.

Another version:

A man lives with his wife at the hundredth floor. He is employed and she is housewife. So when he returns from work, he enters the elevator, and then calls her on the cellular phone. Why??????????????????????   ???  ???

Because he's one of those gormless twits who can't stand to spend 10 seconds straight without doing something, so he calls and interrupts everyone under the sun to entertain himself. >:(

He is a chauvinist and expects a cold beer, a warm meal and a dialed in television when he walks in the door. If he called any sooner the beer would be room temperature, the meal would be tepid and the tv, well...that's besides the point. Originally his wife tried to guess when he would be home from when he got off work, but since it's his regular habit to stop by one of several gentlemens clubs on his way home, it became problematic to know when he would actually arrive.

What a jerk!

Kidding! This was not the answer you were looking for?

Maybe you were thinking...The man and his wife are both midgets and by calling her to come push the elevator call-button on the 100th floor, it saves him having to walk up 50 flights of steps and also allows him to avoid the necessity of carrying an umbrella or similar awkward stick.

Yes. That is the intended answer. :P And somehow, it sounds all so familiar.........  ;)

WHY?

Elevator is the name of a horse.  It can go down 100 floors, but can go up only 50.

Because there are no public phones in elevators, duh!

Any others?

So if it is too difficult to find  "trust" then I  suggest that we first find the trust that we will  find the trust!
