Phil took Ana in a nice quiet restaurant, even though Ana is Brian's ex, and Brian believes in a code between siblings that opposes this. After the restaurant, Phil and Ana did not spend the night together as each went to their homes where they live alone. Brian calls Phil over the phone to make small talk and Brian here and there mentions Ana, as he is still recovering from breaking up with her and stays at his house. He also asks him about a woman he is currently with, as Phil is a bit of a womanizer, and Phil makes up a lie how he went out today with a woman Brian doesn't know of. Nobody told Brian about them, and Brian didn't see them when they were together, as they were careful. Tomorrow they were together, the two above brothers, joking at their expense, as sometimes they do. So, Brian suddenly gets serious and says, 'so, my dear brother and esteemed friend, you went out with my ex girlfriend yesterday..' Phil was stunned as to how did Brian know this, and asked him how did he find out.

So, how did Brian find out about it?

Explanation of the above formatting: text in bold is important, and the rest is just to make the scanty story a bit richer.

One of Brian or Ana's friends was also at the restaraunt and told him/her

Phil's phone's camera was going and pointed at Ana without him realising[/hide]

None of those seem quite right though.

This is true, but [hide]it is plausible that they do go to restaurant, of course, especially if they are gay. Also, I haven't said nowhere in the riddle that Phil said to Brian over the phone that they are in the restaurant, for he could have lied that they are in some bar, as this wouldn't be his first lie.[/hide]

I have said that nobody told Brian about them, so no.

unlikely, as you cannot talk to anyone when camera is on.

This is a plausible situation, but it is a half-hardy answer since the perfume usually wears off by then, and she is not the only one who uses certain parfume.

When and if someone finds out the intended answer, it will click immediately. Of course, you do not have to disregard answers that do not seem quite right, because you might be on the right track and I will tell you about it. ::)

I could be that [hide] Phil and Ana spent the night togehter.[/hide]. Then, Brian could tell, for example by [hide]noticing Phil is wearing inappropriate clothes and assuming he lied to cover his guilt.[/hide] Maybe even [hide]Ana gave Phil some of Brian's old clothes that were left at her place without thinking[/hide].

A few guesses:

Ana overheard Brian on the phone saying he loved and missed her, she called to rekindle things.[/hide]

Are we allowed to know exactly what the code entails? Perhaps if Phil broke it he had to make it up to Brian somehow like they'd agreed previously, but he'd hoped that Brian wouldn't notice for a long while?

So, I would guess that [hide]the phone wasn't hung up after the conversation eneded (hence, no "click") and therefore Brian overheard Phil and Ana talking, thinking he is off the line and cannot hear them[/hide].

How about this: [hide]As stated, Brian continuously mentioned Ana. On previous occasions, when he did that, Phil reacted with "She's not worthy of you", "She's not that hot" etc.. This time, though, he just listened, maybe trying to change the subject. So, Brian did 1 and 1...[/hide]

Brian is not a dope but Phil is pretty good at lying to him and this applies to that conversation also, so you should look for the answer elsewhere..

[/hideb] If it is, then it is possible that perhaps [hideb] the restuarant was trying to get some advertising and was making a commercial while Phil and Anna were in there, and they were unknowingly filmed. Later that day, when the commercial was aired, Brian saw it and immediantly recognized Phil and Anna. [/hideb] If this is not correct, could you tell me if I'm correct in thinking that[hideb] Brian had somehow seen them together? Perhaps as my guess said, on tv? [/hideb]

No, no hidden cameras or otherwise, and Brian didn't see them. They were careful and didn't want Brian to find out about them, and not so soon anyway.

Don't resent me, but the riddle was a bit modified. Nothing that important was added, but still ;)

Were there any [hideb] subtle clues? Perhaps lipstick on Phil's collar? Maybe a bracelet in his car. This would especially work if the braclet had been a gift from Brian to Anna when they were still going out, and if Brian had had their names or a personal message ingraved into it. [/hideb]

Another guess would be that [hideb] Brian actually didn't find out about Phil and Anna, but simply had reasons to believe they were going out. So he confronted his brother about it, acting as though he had pure proof that the two of them had spent the day together, when in reality he was only trying to get a confession out of his brother. Which he did. [/hideb]

You got it Bamaboys. Yes, [hide]he could have been suspicious for reasons you mentioned before so he tricked him to confess, or he was still making jokes on his expense, without being suspicious about them at all. So hard proof and the only proof in the riddle was Phil's confession as he was tricked into it.[/hide] :P

In the way that it kept going through my mind all day as I was trying to think of a good solution to it. I couldn't stop thinking about, therefore it was getting on my nerves. But now that it has been solved ( by me! Sorry if I sound arrogant but I still can't get over the fact I was right) I can sleep tonight. And sorry if hurt your feelings, I didn't realize you were so sensitive about your riddles. :)

Heh, so the actual answer is that Phil told Brian about it. Good job Bamaboys, that was a nasty one :P

The "Brian suddenly turns serious" bit threw me completely, I thought it meant he put all joking aside.
