Title: A Wake Up Call Puzzle
Post by K Sengupta on Apr 7th, 2006, 7:56am
Mr. A placed the Do Not Disturb sign on the handle and closed the door. He noted the time as 1:00 AM and called the front desk for a wake up call at 11:00 AM. Exhausted  Mr. A fell into bed  and tried in vain to fall asleep. By 3:00 AM, unable to sleep, Mr. A asked the front desk to page Mr. B, his business associate in the next room, with an urgent message.

Luckily, Mr. A heard the phone ringing in Mr. B’s room, and a few moments later, he mercifully fell asleep. What could the ringing phone in Mr. B’s room have had to do with Mr. A’s ability to fall asleep?

Maybe the pager Mr. B had was a soothing melony, because it said he coud hear it. Dunno, wild guess :)

towr's answer was a hint that goes halfway to the solution. There is a reason Mr. A cannot sleep. Calling Mr. B in the middle of the night removed that reason - at least long enough for Mr. A to get to sleep.

True.

[hide]According to the puzzle book, Mr. B  was snoring loudly. Mr. A  could not fall asleep.

The ringing phone woke Mr. B up, enabling Mr. A  to finally fall asllep.[/hide]

Yes, this is the simplest solution, but I can imagine, he forgot his [hide]telly on[/hide], and that was making noise once the program ended.
