Title: Drivers & pedestrians
Post by alien on Dec 10th, 2005, 6:27pm
Two men are standing on the pavement near the crosswalk, waiting for the semaphore for pedestrians to turn green. There is nothing unusual about them, but they cause a car accident just by standing there. How?

Surely there is something unusual, people don't regularly cause car accidents.

Post by alien on Dec 11th, 2005, 8:03am
That is a relative term. Anyway, they did not cause the accident on purpose.

They were standing [hide]there naked in the middle of winter[/hide] ?

Title: Re: Drivers & pedestrians
Post by alien on Dec 11th, 2005, 8:58am
That would be rather unusual, so no.  ;)

They caused an accident by standing there instead of remaining seated in the car.  The car is now rolling down the slope towards a crossing.

They ate so much that just by standing there, their bodies completely blocked the view ...

John Speed and Frank Limit are walking to their beer league softball game. They're in uniform and their numbers are 6 and 5 respectively. A driver approaching the intersection from behind the two mistakes them for a "Speed Limit 65" sign and speeds up. He's now driving too fast to negotiate a turn after the intersection and runs off the road.

One could interpret this as:
[hide]they are waiting for the semaphore for pedestrians AND they are waiting to turn green. So, if they really turn green, everybody gets very confused and accidents are inevitable.[/hide] You ARE an alien after all ...

Is it a remake of some western?

Two guys are facing each other at some distance, sweating in the sun, the hands trembling, ready to grab the guns, they are waiting for the signal to start shooting.  But here, the signal is not the bell of the cityhall clock, but a semaphore.

Not even close.  :o

Is it anything that would actually have a decent chance of happening in reality?

Title: Re: Drivers & pedestrians

They are standing upon the policeman who tried to control the trafic after the power outage. (How else could it be that it is now taking more than one day for the semaphore to turn green?)

Nope.

Sure.

They are standing on opposite sides of the road, and are carrying a glass plate in between them?

Not bad, but they are not on the opposite sides of the road.  :P

Were they celebrities?
Were they engaged in any special activities?
Were they the technicians who were sent to fix the semaphore, and have actually turned all light in the crossroad green simultaneously?

A very courteous driver sees them waiting, and in all her politeness stops to let them cross, ignoring the trafic lights. A distracted truck driver crashes into the back of her car ...

Nope.  8)

They are quite good looking and a woman drives by.

Nice try, but no. When I had sexy hair back then, or hair at all, I tell you, a couple of women that were driving by, stopped, got out of the car, and asked me out on a date. True story.

Did they get hurt ?
Did the accident involve more than one vehicle, or is it just one car ?

Unimportant, but let us say that two cars were damaged.

The sign suddenly changed to don't walk, so they stopped walking in the middle of the street?

Title: Re: Drivers & pedestrians
Post by alien on Dec 13th, 2005, 6:26pm
Nope, because they are standing on the pavement, like I said. 8)

I think you mean they are "standing on the sidewalk". The street is presumably paved, so "standing on the pavement" allows them to be standing in the middle of the street.

They are not standing in the middle of the street.

Are they cunjoined twins and people think it's neat, look, and careless enough don't pay attention to the road?

Were they playing catch?

Were they both blind and their see-&-see dog ran out into the middle of the road?

Nice try, but to be blind is unusual.   ;)

Right on, ChunkTug. Yes, they were carrying a mirror, and it was a sunny day.

Isn't it very unusual to carry a mirror (except maybe in your purse)?

Title: Re: Drivers & pedestrians
Post by alien on Dec 19th, 2005, 7:49am
No. Hey Johan, do you carry a mirror in your purse, or sometimes you carry a large mirror in the street so that birds look at your strong manly arms?  ;D

Whoa.. two guys standing around holding a giant mirror between them is "nothing unusual"??

That only happens in bad comedy movies!

A more realistic answer is that they were near an all-girls catholic school when classes got out and were kissing passionately.

1 idea

1. the second man is irrelavent. he first man was homosexual and he was styling his hair with a mirror [homosexual guys/girls usually have a mirror handy (no offense)] and the mirror caught a glimpse of sunlight and the sunlight hit the drivers eye and he crashes into another car.
