Why did a man who was not suicidal and not threatened in any way throw himself through a plate-glass window on the 24th floor of an office building and so fall to his death?

Was it an accident?
Was he testing/proofing the strength of the glass?

Did he know it was the 24th floor?
Was he sane?
Did he see something pass the window?

Sjoerd Job Postmus got it. The man was trying to prove to a group of visitors how strong the glass was by throwing himself into it. It wasn't as strong as he thought.
