Deep in the forest was found the body of a man who was wearing only swimming trunks, snorkel and facemask. The nearest lake was 8 miles away and the sea was 100 miles away. How had he died?

Actually - this one is not a myth (or not one completely) - an incident here in the USA was reported in the national news either last summer, or the summer before.

While it is difficult for me to remember the details now, this was an event to which I have personal witness (at least so far as having seen the news report of it myself). So you are either going to have to call me a liar, or else suppose that a national news crew concocted the story and broadcast it - a highly risky proposition for them with little gain.

Those aren't the only two choices.. Memory is quite fallible, and you could remember something that didn't happen, or something similar that happened slightly differently.

F.i. just recently I talked to someone who once saw the BBC tv series of the hitchhikers guide to the galaxy and swore that there the ultimate answer to life, the universe and everything was 43, and not 42 like in the book and the radio version. Of course he was wrong (someone who had the series checked to see).
Memory is a strange thing..

I don't think you're a liar, nor that a national news crew made the thing up (unless it was on april fools maybe). But I also don't think it actually happened, nor that you're crazy to think it has.. :P
Of course it'll be near impossible to prove one way or another, there must be some record of it if it really happened. But not finding it doesn't prove it isn't out there somewhere, and finding it may be equally hard..
