Title: Accident Post by maryl on Apr 11th, 2003, 2:04pm I searched for this riddle, but didn't find it: A boy and his father get into a terrible car accident; his father dies. When the boy goes in for surgery, the surgeon refuses to operate on him. Why? |

Title: Re: Accident Post by prince on Apr 11th, 2003, 2:57pm Easy, the boy was covered by his dad's medical insurance, which no longer applies due to his dad's death, and the surgeon didn''t want to get stiffed. (Of course, I'm kidding. I don't mean to disparage anyone with this glib remark.) |

Title: Re: Accident Post by BNC on Apr 12th, 2003, 1:19am In this riddle the surgon's reply, with the reason for the refusal of operation, is usually given. The riddle then becomes: how can that be. |

Title: Re: Accident Post by maryl on Apr 12th, 2003, 11:39am Thanks BNC; I couldn't remember it exactly,but it seems to give away the answer doesn't it? Maybe not? |

Title: Re: Accident Post by aero_guy on Apr 12th, 2003, 2:23pm Maybe these days it does. Feminists use to love this as an example of fallocentric society. |

Title: Re: Accident Post by Chewdogscp on Apr 14th, 2003, 3:37pm The version I've heard of this is "A father and a son are in a horrific car accident where the father is killed and when the son goes to the hopsital the surgeon refuses to operate. The surgeon's reason is 'I cannot opperate, for he his my son.'" How is this so? (i have bad memory so excuse me if this is completely incorrect and i'm way off topic) :o |

Title: Re: Accident Post by cheesepuff on Nov 8th, 2005, 8:18pm so whats the answer? |

Title: Re: Accident Post by ChunkTug on Nov 8th, 2005, 8:52pm It's a old riddle (and an old thread), but if you look up "phallocentric" you'll probably figure it out. Otherwise, if you look up [hide]the surgeons scrubs[/hide] you might get a surprise :o |

Title: Re: Accident Post by helenislovely on Nov 10th, 2005, 9:14am I'm glad I'm not the only pedant to be confused by "fallocentric". Unreconstructed feminist I may be, but even I have yet to complain at men inserting their falluses into conversations (or do I mean falli?) Or would that be a fallacy?? I think I need to go have another coffee. |

Title: Re: Accident Post by Cristal on Nov 10th, 2005, 3:28pm "A father and a son are in a horrific car accident where the father is killed and when the son goes to the hopsital the surgeon refuses to operate. The surgeon's reason is 'I cannot opperate, for he his my son." How is this so? Well cause... [hideb]the surgeon is his mom. Right???[/hideb] |

Title: Re: Accident Post by Bethany on Dec 7th, 2005, 8:37am You are right Cristal. This is an old one and when people heard doctor they automatically think is must be a man. [hide]But in fact the Doctor was his mom.[/hide] |
||
Title: Re: Accident Post by Death on Aug 11th, 2006, 5:28pm Here is another solution: [hide]The doctor is the boy's brother/sister and since the boy caused the crash, they had no intension of helping him, feeling very bitter towards him.[/hide] Another technicality is that, [hide]in England anyway, I'm fairly sure that a surgeon is not allowed to opperate on someone with whom he, or she, has connections with. Therefor, even if the mother HAD wanted to perform the operation she wouldn't be allowed as her judgment could be clouded. However, this raises the question: why wouldn't she try to save her son?[/hide] |

Title: Re: Accident Post by cchris on Aug 11th, 2006, 6:05pm This riddle is supposed to say, "the surgeon said "I cannot operate on this boy, he is my son"." |

Title: Re: Accident Post by alien on Aug 13th, 2006, 7:47pm The boy has a sign on his T-shirt saying, I HATE SURGEONS! |
