The corpse of a young lady was found naked in the middle of the desert. A few meters away from her body, different pieces of underwear arranged in a rough line lie on the sand. Beyond the underwear a line of different articles of clothing also lie on the sand. After the clothes, a line of shoes, then a line of different types of bags. No tracks were found around the site. When the body of the young lady was examined, it was found that she was holding a small twig.

Can anyone shed light on this unusual event?

[hide]some people were travelling in a balloon when the balloon started going down. so as not to crash in the desert, they needed to lose weight. they first dropped their shoes, then their clothes, then their underwear. When the balloon still carried on going down, they decided one of them had to jump out. they drew twigs, the woman drew the shortest and therefore had to jump.
what i don't understand: if the balloon was so low, why did the woman die as she jumped out (if she starved, why didn't she move further away from the clothes first or put them back on?) and why did they still have twigs on the balloon after they'd thrown everything else off?[/hide]

All good questions. The normal answers are: They were not about to crash, but knew if they could not gain altitude they would come down in the middle of the desert, where they had no hope of surviving the walk to reach the edge. The twig was from the balloon's basket.

The woman was lost in the desert and started taking her clothes off to try to cool herself off, but died of the heat.

Oh yeah, the best way to cool yourself in the middle of the desert. Makes you think why bedouins travel all wrapped up in clothes. ::)
