Title: Incubation Post by Iceman on Jun 20th, 2007, 9:54am Don't worry: I'll not revert to my former nick. But I cannot play the best turn-based game in the Milky Way: Incubation: the wilderness missions. What gives? All right, I have XP and my computer is quite fast, but I don't see how that is relevant. I download the above sequel, I merged REG file, and start the damn game. But those green fast moving aliens, the second they emerge from ducts, the very second they attack! It is impossible to play like this. When they appear near the duct, then they must wait for me to make my move, and only then they should move and attack. Alas, it is not like that. I do have battle isle phase four original, so, evidently, I can play that sequel, which doesn't have the above problem. I whish I could say the same thing for other two sequels, particularly the wilderness missions one. What can I do, if anything? And, of course, no game dealer has this game, because it is quite old, just perhaps Abandonia site, or wherever I downloaded that RAR file. Oh well: beauty is pain. :'( ;) |

Title: Re: Incubation Post by towr on Jun 20th, 2007, 10:07am How old is the game? Is it a DOS game, and if so do you play it in a DOS emulator? Because if it is, and you don't, perhaps you should. It has solved problems with some old games for me. DOSBox is a fairly decent DOS emulator, in any case.. |

Title: Re: Incubation Post by Iceman on Jun 20th, 2007, 11:13am Good tip, but I tried it in DOSBox0.70-win32-installer, and it says: this program cannot be run in dos mode. So I guess, it is a Windows game after all. One day I am going to tell the Moon about the crying game. :'( :) |

Title: Re: Incubation Post by towr on Jun 20th, 2007, 11:57am It seems to be a win95 game. You could try installing win95 on a virtual machine (e.g. vmware, or virtual PC). I haven't seen any stand-alone win95 emulators, so virtual machine+win95 seems the only way. |

Title: Re: Incubation Post by Iceman on Jun 20th, 2007, 12:04pm I am not that good at things like these, or what Virtual PC is for that matter, but I suppose I should download it here: http://www.microsoft.com/windows/products/winfamily/virtualpc/default.mspx ? |
||
Title: Re: Incubation Post by Sameer on Jun 20th, 2007, 12:05pm Virtual PC lets you run multiple OS at the same time... Like running linux on Windows.. There are other products from VMWARE.. and I forgot another company :s... |

Title: Re: Incubation Post by towr on Jun 20th, 2007, 12:30pm Have you tried the various compatibility modes in XP? http://www.microsoft.com/windowsxp/using/helpandsupport/learnmore/appcompat.mspx Cause that's probably easier than installing a virtual machine. |

Title: Re: Incubation Post by Iceman on Jun 21st, 2007, 11:03am I must be annoying, but when I want to download Virtual PC 2007, it says: The links in this section correspond to separate files available in this download. Download the files most appropriate for you: 32 BIT\setup.exe 64 BIT\setup.exe How do I know which file I should download, that is, do I have 32 BIT or 64 BIT computer, whatever that means? I also wonder if I could mess my computer when I start playing with Virtual PC, since I am pretty dumb when the subject is not click and play. Aw.. :-[ |

Title: Re: Incubation Post by SMQ on Jun 21st, 2007, 11:31am If you don't know, you almost certainly want the 32-bit version. --SMQ |

Aw.. :-[/quote] Heck Icey, just download both, and try them both out. Whichever one works is the right one. And if you did try the wrong one, what's the worse that could happen ? At most you would only have to reformat your harddrive. ;D |

If you've ever installed any program, this really shouldn't be any harder (it's bound to have a normal windows installer). |

Title: Re: Incubation Post by Sameer on Jul 9th, 2007, 11:03am Most of the programs check for things before they even go ahead and start installation. As for e.g. the install should probably check for 64 bit support using CPUID instruction before installing it on your 32 bit machine. So the install should probably fail. Haven't tried it myself yet though. |

Title: Re: Incubation Post by Iceman on Jul 9th, 2007, 11:09am I don't quite get it yet, but I supposedly created Windows 98 because it doesn't have Windows 95, and then it says: REBOOT and select a proper boot device. Then I press a key and it repeats what it did right before. In short, I don't get anything. Oh well.. Sometimes I whish that I was a computer geek. :'( ;) |

Title: Re: Incubation Post by Sameer on Jul 9th, 2007, 11:28am Or read the documentation? As in geek terminology .. RTFM ;) |

Bring it on punk ! :P Like Sameer said, RTFM, or book, or any documentation accompanying it. Btw, what do you mean you created Windows 98 because it doesn't have Windows 95 ? |

Title: Re: Incubation Post by Sameer on Jul 10th, 2007, 11:09pm I haven't used Microsoft virtual PC, but virtual software let you choose OS images.. so i am guessing this one didn't provide one for win 95... |

Title: Re: Incubation Post by JiNbOtAk on Jul 10th, 2007, 11:24pm Ahh, yes. But then, why should they ? I mean, who uses Windows 95 anymore ? :o |

Back then you wouldn't have found one that worked worth a dang anyways. The usual solution was to find someone who still had their DOS 6.22 floppies and set up the machine to dual-boot. Since most soundcards, etc. usually still came with DOS drivers, you could set up a working DOS environment for older games. --SMQ |

Title: Re: Incubation Post by towr on Jul 16th, 2007, 3:16am Have you tried quiting the program (without saving settings) and starting it again? I never use word, so beyond that I have no ideas. |

Title: Re: Incubation Post by Iceman on Jul 23rd, 2007, 11:23am It just so happens, that I am playing Incubation for the 51st time. This time, I will use two double fire guns, two flamethrowers, and two mine launchers. And when I get to the last level, instead of fighting with the biggest spider you have ever seen, bravely, I will send en impulse to Folsom. I know what you are wondering: 'What kind of impulse!?', but gentleman never tells.. It could be anything. So take care when you are opening your mailbox, or walking the doggy down the street, or when you turn on the radio, or, perhaps, use the toaster? I have impulses, because I am an impulsive man. That's right: 'I've said 'man..' Been with a woman once. But I am only 29 years old, so they call me faggot, even though I never been with a man. Why? I dunno.. Btw, a witty image. |
