Title: Problem with Thread Ordering
Post by Barukh on Dec 28th, 2004, 9:36am
Today, I found the order of threads in almost every section completely messed up.

Does it happen only to me?

Nope, me also. But it should soon sort itself out when members return from their celebrations.
(Of course, it would be easy for somebody to do this deliberately by posting and then deleting posts.)

I don't think it's so easy. I believe the best thing is to fix a technical problem at the server site (of course, when relevant people are back from their celebrations/vacations  :D)

Happy New Year!  :)

Two days ago there were two spammers (or one with two names) And every out of place thread is one where they posted, and where I consequently deleted their post. Unfortunately that still left all the threads out of place (but on the other hand it will allow you to count how much spam we got bombarded with)

Unfortunately, towr's curses haven't managed to catch up with them yet. I had to delete a couple new posts from them yesterday as well.

I think I fixed the thread ordering now. Thanks everyone for the reports.

It seems the spam is back... I noticed 3 posts in Easy section and one in "What am I" in  the last 15 minutes. Look here (http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=riddles_easy;action=display;num=1053625055).

What I've seen had **** in the link name and was related to India. Can't it be an automatic posting?  :(

Then, I noticed one of the spams was removed (probably, by one of the admins) from this thread (http://www.ocf.berkeley.edu/~wwu/cgi-bin/yabb/YaBB.cgi?board=riddles_easy;action=display;num=1036468244). And, after that, Easy section indication of the last post was the last post of that thread (06/2004).

I know William does not want to remove anonymous posting, but maybe something else is needed? For example, what about requiring the user to type in a code when posting anonymously? This would foil robots that google for bulletin boards, but not people with too much time on their hands.

That might require more tinkering in the forum code than is practical.. (I don't think it's a standard mod for YaBB)
