Title: Database Cruft Post by James Fingas on Nov 25th, 2003, 6:58am William, You have probably noticed the broken entry in the Medium section. In case you haven't, here's a screen shot (there's no other way to send you a link!). Notice that the URL is broken. It looks like some bad data somehow got into the database. |

Title: Re: Database Cruft Post by william wu on Nov 26th, 2003, 1:33am The attachment problem is now fixed. My webspace had gone over quota, so the system crapped out when you tried to write a new file. Normally I'd be aware of how I'm doing with respect to the quota, but apparently a 13 mb core dump file was recently generated in my YaBB directory, and this unexpected large chunk of data caused the quota excession. With regards to the seemingly lost What Am I threads, I have a backup of the forum from November 14th. So never fear, most content will be restored eventually -- I probably won't restore it until the mystery thread in the medium forum is resolved. Edit 2:04 AM 11/26/2003: The thread files were not deleted. Instead, somehow the file which lists which threads should be displayed in the What Am I forum got modified. This is an easy fix, but I opt to restore it later for debugging reasons. |

Title: Re: Database Cruft Post by william wu on Nov 26th, 2003, 10:08pm Turned to not be an easy fix, but in any case, the bad data has been removed, and all threads have been recovered (apparently the easy, medium, and hard section had recently lost hundreds of threads.) There were a handful of threads for which YaBB could not determine which forum they belonged to. I had YaBB move these threads to a temporary new board titled "Orphan Threads". I was able to move most of these orphan threads back to their original locations by using either content inspection, my memory, or backup files from yesterday. However, there are a few orphan threads for which I don't know where they used to be. If you know where one of these threads belonged, just post to that thread, and a moderator or myself will eventually move it accordingly. Your help will be most appreciated. (And if you're a moderator and remember where the thread was, feel free to just move it.) |
