Pascal is a famous mathematician who is known among others to have discovered the binomial factors and arranged them in a triangle.  His name stuck with the idea even though it was known long before him.

You never heard of Blaise Pascal?
He's very famous for his triangle; and also for a certain wager. The programming language Pascal is also named in his honour.
