Title: In DEEP trouble Post by alien2 on Mar 26th, 2017, 10:54pm We are in deep trouble.. The population of this country is 300 million. 160 million are retired. That leaves 140 million to do the work. There are 85 million in school. Which leaves 55 million to do the work. Of this there are 35 million employed by the federal government. Leaving 20 million to do the work. 2.8 million are in the armed forces preoccupied with killing TERRORISTS !! Which leaves 17.2 million to do the work. Take from that total the 15.8 million people who work for state and city Governments. And that leaves 1.4 million to do the work. At any given time there are 188,000 people in hospitals. Leaving 1,212,000 to do the work. Now, there are 1,211,998 people in prisons. That leaves just two people to do the work. You and me. |

Title: Re: In DEEP trouble Post by rloginunix on Mar 27th, 2017, 7:48am That's pretty funny (if not sad). I had a good laugh. In the mix we should also include this forum's dwellers who never participate in problem solving. Incidentally, just finished doing my Federal taxes - cried like a schoolgirl. Happens every year. It's a good thing that my company withholds the taxes from every paycheck - otherwise I, and I am sure others, would have a heart attack. |

Title: Re: In DEEP trouble Post by towr on Mar 27th, 2017, 8:46am I typically get money back every year. It doesn't exactly mean I don't pay a lot, but apparently more goes directly from the company to the tax-collector than I actually owe. Which changes the experience from "damn, do I have to pay that much extra?!" to "Oh, nice, I get that much back?!" |

Title: Re: In DEEP trouble Post by towr on May 2nd, 2017, 1:17pm Y'know, the retired population in the US is nothing close to 160M. There's not even 45M over 65. They'd have to retire at 35 to get 160M retirees. There's also unlikely to be 85M in school. Because 0-4 year olds don't go to school, and not all 20-24 year old's go to college. Number of federal employees is around 4M. Which _includes_ the military, so aside from overestimating them tenfold they got counted twice. |
