i hope the topic makes it clear itself.
mistakingly i pressed this option and hence all the thread are left as read with no tag of 'new'. Can i undo this effect. Pls help.

I think you're out of luck; I'm pretty sure it's irreversible.

i dont know how this feature makes sense. Marking any thread read is implicit on reading the thread.

Yes, but perhaps not everyone is interested in reading every topic, and doesn't want them to show up as unread. It makes it easier to keep track of new threads.
I use it regularly on other forums.

I use it periodically here when threads start claiming to have new posts - with a last post date several years ago...

Polls, for example, tend to show up with "new posts" on many forums even if you have read the thread and voted.
