Title: dirichlet problem
Post by Noke Lieu on Oct 27th, 2008, 9:08pm
Hooning about through texts and stuff in my unguided quest for great mathsy stuff, I stumbled across "Dirichlet Problem" (http://mathworld.wolfram.com/DirichletProblem.html).

This is where my lack of training comes to the fore, and I'd just like to check that what I suspect is along the right lines.

- imagine a circular pool of water. For that matter, a coffee cup would do. If you drop something in, you get ripples. What, where and how you drop determine the nature of the ripples, and using this, you can find out if the ripples are harmonic within the cup or not.

Could be wavefronts across a drum skin too, I suppose-

or am I barking up the wrong tree there?
