Title: Tiling, geometric visual puzzle..
Post by zeteticism on Jun 25th, 2007, 9:16am
(Tossing this up in general problem-solving because I'm leery of slapping it somewhere it doesn't belong.)

Hullo, all!

I'm stumped. I've been given a visual puzzle to solve, with no instructions, save to relay the answer to them when I've uncovered it. I've already snarkily tried, 'The answer,' obviously no luck.

Since then, I've been scavenging around the Internet, looking for something that looks at least a bit similar, again to no avail. Maybe one of you will have seen something like this, who knows. I'm optimistic! Heck, maybe it is an old standby and I've just been using the wrong search terms.

Here's the picture:

I'd be crazy grateful if one of you could help me out, because I've been chewing on this for quite some time, and it's not going anywhere. I've been going around in 'look, it tiles! look, it's slightly misaligned! look, three horizontally oriented diamonds!' circles for a while. Sigh.

Thanks again, and apologies if I've put this in the wrong place.

Who did you get the puzzle from?

An acquaintance notorious for his notpr0n-esque puzzle sequences. (I.e., solve stage one to progress to stage two, etc.) This is actually a stage, but it's totally, totally removed from what's come before it -- straightforward (well..) logic puzzles and trickier problem-solving. The last stage involved the permutation of several picture names to find a specific thread in a specific forum. But his insistence that I have to hand-deliver the solution to this particular problem indicates to me that I'm not going to come up with any other links.

He might've made it himself, for all I know.

Perhaps it's a column of numbers reflected a few times?

That's a thought. Ala 470133674 / variations thereon?
