Title: Why is this legal?

Take a look at some of the ads you get when you search for "essay" on your favorite search engine.

Why are these businesses legal? Why do search engine companies accept ads from them?

If someone buys and essay and uses it to cheat, he is the one committing the crime.  Writing and selling essays should not be illegal.  It would be unfair to English majors who go to college to master essay writing.  They are entitled to a job.

But what about writing and selling essays tailored to a student's assignment?

I suspect that it would be hard to enforce any law on this. If it were to be made illegal, then companies could always "help" students rather than do everything for them.  And so we would enter a gray area.

But still, why do search engine companies accept their ads?

Because they get paid.

Google already rejects some ads from legal businesses such as those for cigarettes and alcohol.
