hi,
There are lots of brilliant amazing people around here who solve even the toughest of the problems easily. But I feel that not all good problem solvers can compete effectively in programming contests even if the contests are algorithm intensive. I guess it really needs much more than being a good problem solver to be real good in programming contests.
And also not all competitive programmers are as good in analysing problems and proofs.
Is it just tons of practice and passion for contests or anything else ?
what do you think would make one an excellent problem solving programmer?

Well, first off there's different sorts of contests. So it helps to know what sort you're dealing with, knowing what to expect is half the battle.
Aside from that, lots of practice is really the only thing I can think of at the moment.

say it was a topcoder contest or ACM ICPC contest.
what would be your advise for the aspirant? I mean on what aspects should he concentrate while practicing?
