Here is a copy of the 1st post there:


OK, here we go:
For those of you who have not partaken of the joy that is Sandman:
This is "the oldest game" practiced by gods, mortals and Endless since the beginning of time; what you do is you choose a form, and two adjectives to go with it "I am bull, snake-crushing, heavy-footed", and your opponent then chooses a form to defeat that "I am anthrax, butcher-bacterium, warm-life slaying"
Rules are, no undue escalation (eg "I'm a spider" - "Hah! I'm a nuclear holocaust"), undue hesitation or lack of imagination. Also, if you're duelling with a specific person, state the user at the beginning of the post to save confusion.
You people out there may think this is a lame idea, but hey, give it a try.

Ralph Nader is more than a columnist, he is a "Consumer Advocate." He also ran in the 2000 election, and some people claim that the small percent of votes he got in Florida and other states prevented Gore from beating Bush.

Now, people are predicting that Nader will do the same thing to Kerry. Anyway, something else to defeat Kerry.

(Dave Barry - a humorous newpaper columnist - once wrote an excellent article about humor-impairedness. He on occasion writes a satirical column he calls "Ask Mr. Language Person", in which he pretends to answer gramar questions, but always giving obvious wrong answers. Every time he does one of these articles, he apparently receives much mail from people informing him that his answers were *wrong*! By his definition, humor-impairedness is not failing to see why something is funny, but failing to realize it was a joke in the first place, no matter how obvious the joke was.)

(A few declarations up, the bible defeated homosexuality.  There is an obvious correlation among every odd declaration:  bible, George Bush, etc.  What is interesting is that religion has just appeared in an even position - it reminds me of another puzzle in this forum, which attempts to find the minimum area for a shape that allows a needle to be rotated on a plane within its boundaries - there is no minimum if the shapes is a star with infinitely many points and the needle is moved back and forth, resulting in a slow rotation.)

I believe Holmes fell down from a waterfall, leaving Moriarty behind in the assumption that Holmes died. Surprisingly Holmes didnt and returned on the orient express, together with Miss Marple, Poirot, Angela Landsbury and others.

Due to public demand, it was later revealed that, while Moriarty did indeed fall to his death, Holmes managed to save himself, but went into hiding to avoid retribution from Moriarty's lackeys who were waiting higher up the cliffs with handguns...

Ah?  In fact, I looked it up in the dictionnary and saw something like "imposing an opinion".  I assumed it was by the politicians themselves.

We Blue States are leaving you red states to form a more perfect union and you red states can even keep our married name, The United States.

Our new blue state country called New America, starts in California, goes up to Oregon, Washington, across Canada to grab Minnesota, Wisconsin, Michigan, Illinois, New York, Pennsylvania, New Jersey and the rest of New England-- that's New America, you red states keep the rest. I haven't checked on this plan with Canada but, nobody whose in the Monkees says no to joining the Beatles, so Canada's in.

If you red staters want, all the normal business blue and red states do now can continue -- there'll be trade and commerce between our two countries, the Chicago Cubs will still play the Florida Marlins, it'll be business as usual.

You Red Staters can keep the Constitution and Bill of Rights, New America has copies and we're going to fix them anyway. Our second amendment will make it clear, for example, you can't buy a rocket launcher at a flea market. Little tweaks like that.

New America will have lots of religion, Baptists, Buddhists, Agnostics for Jesus, the whole range, just not in the public schools. No new "creation-ism" science books needed, here. Imagine the savings.

Abortion will be legal within limits but we're also going to finance tons of scary sex education in our schools, too, and soon we'll have tons fewer unwanted pregnancies than you. Our Blue State New America kids will know how and why what got into them got into them. Fewer doctor visits, imagine our savings....

We will split up the military, we blue staters pay for most of, but we'll share it with you. Our two nations certainly could, in the future, have a coalition of the willing, at times. But New America will be unwilling at other times. And because we won't be attacking nations that didn't attack us first, inflaming, for example, the whole of the already testy Arab world, again, imagine our savings.

We will have an energy policy that looks beyond oil. You can have Alaska if we can have Hawaii.
Electronic voting machines in New America will have a paper trail. That only seems fair. If I can get a piece of paper proving I paid for a Slurpee at 7/11, I should be able to get a piece of paper saying who I wanted to be the leader of the free world. Again, that only seems fair. In fact, that seems to be the essence of, hmmmm, (I'm scratching my chin) what was that again, oh yes, democracy.

This break up is going to be good for both of us because blue states generate a disproportionately huge amount of the tax revenue spent propping up you red states, again, imagine the savings for New America, and after we split you red states can prove what you can do when the government gets off your back. With no more spousal support from us keeping you down you red states will flourish and prosper and you'll soon forget we were ever married.

Actually, it was the South that chose to go to war. If they had tried other means of enforcing their seccession, such as refusal to cooperate in all Federal activity, they might have succeeded in seceding. But by choosing open hostility, they effectively undermined support for their cause in the North.

Anyway - I am parental propriety, denying little girls from suggesting presidents should grow beards, damaging presidential image.

I think, you're allowed to do that under the open source license; as long as there is actual new window dressing. (That's how Star-office and various commercial Linuxes exist)

Not quite. I was a bad TV series from the 1970s. As for Mission to Mars, it is actually vastly superior to most Hollywood productions when it comes to science. The entire setup it used for its Mars missions is what is a legitimate proposal widely considered to be the most workable approach yet. It was only the alien technology that goes beyond any known science, and I am far more forgiving for such things. Who knows what may be possible?

It was a movie and a TV series. Both came up on IMDB. Anyway, Mission to Mars was decent science by Hollywood standards, but the spacewalk scene was pretty dumb. Every time I think of that movie, I think of the girl's watch that says "point of no return" as she goes out to save (I think) her husband. Also, the cloth tent on the Mars surface with really tough to swallow, almost as tough as the fusion reactions in Spider-Man 2.

If there was a movie, it must have been made-for-tv. Mercifully, I have forgotten it.

Just as I also forgot the "point of no return" watch from Mission to Mars. But the tent part is actually serious. Needless to say, the material needs to be stronger than ordinary canvas, and to be airtight, but it still makes sense as the lightest way to provide a structure of significant size. Shipping charges for sending materials to Mars are a bit on the hefty side.

For those that may not know of them, or know them by a different name (I suspect "chinese handcuffs" is a colloquial misnomer), this consist of small stretch-tubes which are worn with a finger from each hand in each end. Because pulling simply causes the stretch weave to tighten, they are difficult to remove, particularly if you have five of them trapping all your fingers.

I am pretty sure that this one has been used, but the actions are different. Is that acceptable?

Also, I did not need to repair the air conditioner, just defeat the dust, but what the heck, thats a freebee.

Not that U.K. specific. I have a friend who is a middle school (grades 6-8) principle, and he complains constantly that his teachers no longer have time to do anything but prepare the kids for the next assessment test.

I still remember playing Carmageddon briefly on a friend's Mac running a PC emulator - effective specs such that it ws rather jerky when running at minimum detail levels...
