I'm posting this, as I suspect that it will appeal to the tastes of some of the puzzlers here, and I do hope that it's quite within the spirit of things to make reference to my own website.

I have a section, called Project Euler (after my hero), which is a collection of problems that generally require the combined effort of slick mathematical insights and the intelligent use of computer programming to solve.

You'll need to register so that it can track your progress. It also makes use of a dynamic scoring system, whereby problems are worth as much as the number of people that have solved them: the more people that solve a particular problem, the less it becomes worth, and your overall score is constantly updated to take this into account.

If you're up for the challenge and enjoy this sort of thing, check it out and feel free to make any comments/suggestions.

Sir Col, does the impressively snazzy overhaul of your website partly explain your long, lamented absences here?

I'd put it more down to the wisdom of our beloved government and the "improvements" they've made to the education system. It seems that teachers didn't have enough to do and didn't really want a life outside of teaching. So they came up with this great idea of trying to fill every non-teaching moment with inane administrivite tasks. After all, continuous testing and using the latest twenty-page-per-lesson planning forms makes our students understand so much better. Only the other day one of them said, "Thanks, sir! Before all these tests we keep doing I only thought that I wasn't very clever, now these tests have confirmed it! You know, at one time I might have believed that more time spent teaching us would improve my understanding, but these tests prove that I am beyond teaching. And I have to say that since you've been looking like death warmed up and have been dragging your sleep deprived body from class to class I really feel that the way you've been teaching us has improved!"  ::)

Mind you, I wouldn't say that my absences here have been that great; this is my 1120th post!
