Two men are in a desert. They both have packs on. One of the guys is dead. The guy who is alive has his pack open, the guy who is dead has his pack closed. What's in the pack?

Might be [hide]water[/hide], might be a [hide]parachute[/hide].
But given that the canonical answer is the latter, why a desert?

Could also be his lunch. The one who is alive is happily having his lunch. Dead men don't eat lunch.

The first solution that popped into my mind. But I think the parachute solution makes more sense. Although ... why would anyone parachute in the middle of the desert ... Perhaps because it's better than in the city? :)[/hide]

They might have landed in a desert after jumping from a plane (which had some technical failure). The dead one wasn't able to open his pack of parachute.
