A friend of mine sells something I really wanted to buy. It costs one dollar. I went to him a while ago and took that certain something without giving any money to him. In fact, he's the one who gave a dollar to me. Hint:[hide]Gave might not be the right word... ;D[/hide]

I never stole it from him, and I didn't bribe him to give me a dollar and the thing I bought from him.

So... how did that happen?

(sorry if it's quite lame... >_< I made it by myself.)

Maybe the mystery item is a dollar itself. Did your friend lend you it? It fits most of the description other than who would sell a dollar? maybe the he sells signed dollars? in which case why not lend you a regular dollar? As my answer is so convoluted I guess its not correct, but i thought i'd give it a go! :)

Woops, sorry if I confused you... ^_^;;

The item has nothing to do with it ^-^ So the "thing" can be anything. I just made it a "thing" because our currency in my country isn't DOLLAR so I don't know what you can buy from a dollar... :P

Maybe you had no money, but you had an item he wanted with a value of two dollars so you exchanged it for the item and he gives you back one dollar change?

He owed you 2, so he paid back with the 1-$ item and 1 extra dollar.

Or more simple, he owed you $1. He had a very special $1 coin that you wanted to buy from him. So he sold you the coin, and as payment you erased the debt.

There was a case where my wife made me a present for my birthday. And with the present she gave me an envelope containing the exact amount of money matching the value of the present. She said it is to settle the accounts.
