Title: ANALOG CLOCK I
Post by JC... on Aug 19th, 2006, 8:55am
PUZZLE:
ANALOG CLOCK I:
An analog clock reads 3:15. What is the angle between the minute hand and hour hand?

PROOF:
1.) The face of a clock (a full circle) is 360°
2.) There are 12 hours on the face of a clock
3.)  -Therefore, each hour takes up 30°
4.) Each such hour has 60 minutes
5.)  -Therefore, each minute is 0.5°
6.) At 3:15, the minute-hand sits exactly on the 3's position of the clock's face
7.) At 3:15, the hour-hand sits exactly 15 minutes past the 3's position
8.)  -Therefore, the hour-hand is 7.5° (i.e., 15 x 0.5°) beyond the minute-hand's position.

ANSWER:
The angle formed between the hour and minute hands at 3:15, on an analog clock, is 7.5°.

Yes, definitely "easy".   ;D

   JC...

um, its an analogue clock.
doesnt that mean its digital?
therefore no hands or face with which to measure an angle..?

Analog means it's not digital.
