Title: The Escalator Problem
Post by Rahul on Jun 3rd, 2006, 12:05am
If I walk down 26 steps on an escalator I require 30s to reach the bottom.
However, if I walk down 34 steps I require only 18s to reach the bottom.
If time is measured from the moment the top step
begins to descend to the time I step off the last
step at the bottom, What is the height of stairway
in steps?

26 steps --> 30 s

34 steps --> 18 s

[hide]each 2 steps more --> 3 s less time[/hide]

[hide]46[/hide] steps --> [hide] 0[/hide] s

The height is [hide]46[/hide] steps.

And it is pretty slow:

[hide] 0[/hide] steps --> [hide]69[/hide] s ...
