Title: GAME, DOLLARS AND TURNS AROUND THE TABLES ...
Post by coolnfundu on Oct 27th, 2004, 12:02am
A group of seven young tranvestites A, B, C, D, E, F, G were recently engaged in a game. They agreed that the player who wins the game would give all others double the money that they already had.  In all they played 7 games and strangely each game was won by different people and rpecisely in the order listed above.  Finally, the seventh young man had Dollar 32 in his pocket.  Can you find out how much money each of them had with them at the start of the game?

The easiest way is to pretend that money distribution doesn't change between games, it's just shifted by one person. This gives the answer 32 times 36, ..., 32.

Of course, it doesn't prove that that's the only solution.

I assumed that your “Dollar 32” is $32. Please correct accordingly if I am wrong.

Assume that the friends had at the beginning 729, 243, 81, 27, 9, 3, 1 – from A to G. Now, if A won, he tripled the money of his friends, and left just $1 for himself.

So, after the first round the friends had 1, 729, 243, 81, 27, 9, 3 dollars in their pockets, that is the same distribution if B plays the role of A, C – of B etc.

After the 7-th round, they will come to their original distribution, where G had $1. because in the problem he had $32, we must multiple everything by 32, as I did.

Hope this helps.

yes it is if 1 dollar has 100 cents ...

anyways, the answer is wrong ... think of the money last person had in each game ... I think solution lies there ...

dollar can be considered any currency which has 100 further lower denominations ... such that 100 (say cents) = 1 dollar or dinar or pisa or whatever ....

I hope that helps ...

ok ok ... 32 dollars means 3200 cents ... if that helps ...

now say there are m players and the amount of money was n with them in total ... nah I am gonna solve it later ..

So, lets say there are n number of players and the amount held by every player at the end will be say m(2n) and the last winner must have obviously held  then m.(n+1) and the next, m.(2n+1) and the next (4n+1) and so on ... So the first player must have won ... (2n-1)*(n+1)

So if we put n=7, we get, G = 2
F=3.75
E = 7.25
D = 14.25
C = 28.25
B = 56.25
A = 112.25

If the game started from G that is ....

I am sorry, coolnfundu, but your solution is no less cryptic than the problem statement itself (I wish I were the only one claiming that). Could you please explain it better? Besides, please show how it satisfies the following condition:

Why transvestites? (Do they include Ben Dover and Tanya Hyde?)
Why young?
Why a group?
Are you a subversive?  :-/
