Title: At the ends of a Tie

Please, does anyone know the answer to this riddle? It probably seems really easy to you lot.
'I bet you if you stand at one end of my tie, and I stand on the other, you will not be able to touch me. Why?'

Usually such questions relate to trickiness of words.Mostly the answers demand a few laughs but nothing sensible.

Now if i guess the answer correctly it would most prolly be,
::[hide] i can't touch you bcos there is 'i' in between
one end of tie is 't' and other end of tie is 'e'[/hide]::

TenaliRamen is probably on the right track, but I have a problem.

I have several neck ties, which is maybe what the riddle is about. And, if you lay one on the floor it is more than a meter long, so it would be impossible to touch somebody on the other end unless they held out their hand.

So, maybe the answer is "Because I will not hold out my hand toward you."

I suspect the intended answer is: [hide]It's a railroad tie (a length of rail). These are long enough that people standing at each end would be unable to reach each other.[/hide]

You could just thread the tie underneath a closed door.

A 'tie' is also the term used for a [hide]match in tennis tournaments such as the Davis Cup[/hide], which is what I initially thought of. And you're not going to be able to touch someone [hide]on the other end of a tennis court[/hide].

Jamie may be right about the answer - that is an old trick. You bet someone you and he can stand on opposite ends of something (a newspaper was common) without being able to touch each other. When the patsy accepts, you go over to the door and ...
