Supplementary puzzle: what is the highest possible break in snooker?
[hide]147[/hide]

Highest number of points scored by one player in one frame?
[hide]167 - Dominic Dale v Nigel Bond in 1999 Embassy World Championship (R1) (Break 122 plus one red and 11 successive misses worth 44)[/hide] :)

One frame? No, I mean theoretically possible in one BREAK (potted shots).

That's right, TaB! :)
But the answer is in the first part of my posting.
15 red each followed by a black one gets 120 points. And the six colors with 27 points. So we get the sum of 147 points.

The second part is only a interesting thing.
To complete it:
the lowest points for a break with only the cue ball left on the table is 72 points (theoretically 44 points, if all reds are potted with the first shot ;D).

Gerd, how about this:

Player A fouls, snookering Player B who gets a free ball.
Player B then pockets the free ball (1 point), then a Black (7 points), and then clears the table (147 points).

TOTAL BREAK: 155 points

Title: In some situations after a Re: Points in the paint

You're right, T&B! :)

What I found is this:
'In some situations after a foul stroke, the offending player may gain an advantage over their opponent – for example, the cue-ball could come to rest in a snooker or other safe position.

To counter this situation, after any foul stroke committed the offending player can be requested by their opponent to continue at the table. However, if the non-offending player is snookered on the target-ball(s), that is the player cannot be judged to be able to strike the cue-ball to hit both sides of the object-ball (though you cannot be snookered on a red ball by a red ball), the player is allowed to nominate any ball on the table as their target-ball (known as a free-ball). If the free-ball is the pocketed, it will score only in accordance as the original target-ball – in theory, before any red balls have been pocketed, if a player is awarded a free-ball there is a possible break of 155 on, though this is not recognized as the maximum break total.'

And, in addition to the lowest points (still theoretically):
'At the risk of being pedantic the lowest break would be 37 with a foul on the last shot (i.e. player touches the white ball before it stops).'

Wish you a nice day! :)
Gerd

Sorry, you're wrong.

Apart from this, I don't have much to add, sadly.
Why do puzzles like this one get posted while I'm ill??  :'(

I must be from a different country, I would have phrased the puzzle as:

1. Yellow
2. Blue
3. Red
4. ??
5. Orange
6. Green
7. Maroon

A clear sign of a misspent youth :)

Talking of misspent youth, how about: black, blue, green, cyan, red, ???, yellow, white? And if you know the next 8, I wouldn't know whether or not to be impressed or feel sorry for you.

Richard,
my guess is [hide]lilac[/hide].
But why did you stop at number seven?

Sir Col,
I'm not so sure with your sequence because of the last two colours. Maybe you're looking for [hide]magenta[/hide]. In this case I would have said [hide]brown, light grey[/hide] instead of yellow, white. Although it might have been child's play then.  ;)
