Title: Re: Quick & Easy Quiz (Pass mark = 2/10) Post by Icarus on Apr 6th, 2003, 7:03pm The October Revolution occured in November 1917. It is called the October Revolution because it occured in October by the Russian Calendar. Russia did not adopt the modern calendar, with its various leap year corrections, until after the Revolution. By this time Russian dates had slipped quite a bit from what is now standard. And it is called a Camel Hair Brush, not camel's hair brush. A camel's hair brush could be made of many different things, depending on what the camel's groomer bought or used. A Camel Hair Brush was a particular brand of hair brush (for people) circa 1900. |

Title: Re: Quick & Easy Quiz (Pass mark = 2/10) Post by wowbagger on Apr 7th, 2003, 8:41am On the subject of the Thirty Years War I'd like to point out to the fact that it was a period of time during which a number of wars took place. Most of the (leading) Western European countries were involved, the main fighting took place in Germany, however. A sad example of what (supposedly) irreconcilable confessional contrasts can bring about :'( The Thirty Years War began with the [hide]Defenestration of Prague on May 23rd 1618[/hide] and ended with the [hide] Peace of Westphalia on October 24th 1648[/hide], so it actually lasted [hide]longer than 30 years[/hide] if you consider the whole period as one war. |
