An exam to test how much one learned from psychology classes, in this case at an introductory level (101), if I'm not mistaken.

I was having a far more amusing idea of a room 101 test in which the examinee is required to come up with his worst and most desperate fears. The idea of being asked to help someone with this was appealing.
Sigh. I should be setting university papers.

That's right. The hero's personal terror is rats and the true brilliance of the torture is not that you get covered in whatever you loathe most, but that you get to make a choice between suffering the torture yourself or offering the person you love in your place to suffer instead. The true awfulness of the regime is to break the human mind by making it despise itself. You discover that love is not as strong as fear and since the regime exists as fear, you no longer have any way to resist it. Once that's done, the torturers don't even need to put him in the room. They can let him and his lover go.
A 101 exam about that would be much better... For what would you betray your deepest, innermost self? Box of chocolates? The answer to an unanswerable riddle?
Have looked but you don't have a little rat smiley on the site for me to stick on this...
