Title: Good Psych Experiments
Post by sheep on Oct 10th, 2005, 5:40pm
One question - why are the most damaging, frigtening, gruesome physch experiments conducted in prominent universities? Milgram = yale... Prisoners = stanford...

If you havent already, i strongly recommend reading about the Milgram experiment if you havent already.

some other cool experiments are ...

STANFORD PRISON EXPERIMENT
volunteers randomly chosen to be guards or prisoners. after a while, each began to act its role. Although they were indistinguishable at the beginning... what happens is... AHHHH!!! unbelievable. and interesting.
for details, see
http://www.prisonexp.org/

3 Lines
there was a roomful of "subjects" only one of which is actually a test subjects. everyone is asked which two lines were the same length (you can easily see the difference in length) and the subject says whatever the group says. for a better more detailed explanation than my crap, see
http://www.age-of-the-sage.org/psychology/social/asch_conformity.html

so, what's Your favorite experiment(s)?

gah! i forgot the Bobo doll experiment which shows that children learn agression by model and are less likely to be violent if their model was punished for being aggressive. so if you've kids, keep this in mind.

also, you can learn to fear stuff through association... little albert experiment

finally, one of the most elegant "experiments" (game) ...
THE PRISONER'S DILEMMA!
there's a riddle about it somewhere in the riddles page...

What psychology experiment would you love to carry out if neither ethics nor practical reality stood in your way?
