There is a deck consisting of 52 unmarked cards, arranged in a line and placed face-down on a small round table. The magician tells a random spectator from the audience, both sitting on chairs at the table, that he picks one, any card of his choice, making sure he doesn’t show him the card. As it turns out it is the king of spades. The magician knew right away what card the spectator picked. But how?
