Okay, here's an attempt: A shirt A shirt with no sleeves is called a tank top, tanks played a role in WW2. Shirts can have collars of varying colours, or hues. When there is a shirt sale, the girls will be there, guarenteed, girls are sometimes called chicks. As for heads up, well, your head needs to be up to put on a shirt.... How'd I do?

Not what I had in mind, Azgard. But I like your explanation and think it makes a good alternate answer. Keep trying!

hidden: | Chicks can also mean “young birds especially of domestic fowl”, and thus can figuratively represent fighter aircrafts, which are attracted by the sight of a battleship (or submarine). | If so, German battleship Bismarck may be a possibility.

Actually your answer is fairly close but incorrect. Keep thinking like that though and you might figure it out

A “tank” can also attract enemy fighter aircrafts. Looking at synonyms, a “reservoir”, or “pool” - seems to be a possibility.

A wild guess: A “nest egg”, since a tank can colloquially be called a “nest egg”. But, this does not seem to fit the second line.

Maybe it's time to consider tanks are not the only vehicles used in WW2. The ship guess was a bit closer... but anyway that's part of the riddle... if you can figure out that half it will lead you to the actual answer.

Well, the HMS Hood had a role to play in WW2 - even if it was just most famously being sunk by the Bismarck. Something tells me that Hood doesn't quite fit, though... Perhaps Pearl (as in Pearl Harbor) works better

No correct answers so far. This is not one specific craft... and I'd encourage exploring other clues in the riddle to set you in the right direction. Side note and won't give you clues about riddle: As for the HMS Hood, while it is probably most commonly remember now as being sunk by the Bismark, was once the greatest warship in the world and the USN was so impressed with her that it changed the look of the fleet permanently. Not to mention she bore a name with a lot of history as Adm Samuel Hood developed several revolutionary naval tactics in his time. (I'll stop being a history geek now hehe but hey, it might come in handy one day!)

A rose field (or, rose garden). We know that President Franklin D. Roosevelt played a significant role in WWII, and "roosevelt" means a rose field.

We know that the overall design of the classical submarine periscope is simply two telescopes pointing into each other. So, telescope (or, binoculars) can be assumed to be an approximate synonym of a “submarine periscope.” Is “telescope (or, binoculars)” the answer to this riddle?

May be a “chickenhawk”. The 365th Fighter Group of the United States Army Air Force, called the "Hell Hawks” did play a role in WWII.
