I'm sorry if I'm not doing this right, I'm new to the site: 1 door closes, 9 open. When 9 close, 1 door opens. What is it? I've read some bible-related answers, but none of them make sense. Can you help me?

| Maybe: @ 1:00 door closes, @ 9:00 open. When @ 9:00 close, @ 1:00 door opens. It is just a shop time table. Well, you still have to figure when it is open...

Nobody has come up with a good solution, and Andy, who posted it, said he didn't have a good one either. So there is no point in asking.

The answer is "the orifices of a new born". Within the womb, a child has all ten orifices closed but the umbilical. When born, the belly button seals and the eyes, ears, nose, etc. open. There you go, as it is.

alrighty guys this is actually pretty easy. the thing the riddle is talking about is a dam. if you dont know how a dam works this is how. there are 10 doors or chambers if you would. when the water level is at a certain point the one door opens and the other 9 close. this is to regulate the amount of water to make sure you don't overflow. when the water level gets too high then the one door closes and the other 9 open to get rid of more water. then when the level drops down to the desired level the 9 doors close and the one reopens. so there you have it. it had me stumped for a while too but there you go! Your Welcome!

| Why the relationship of 1 and 9 in your good DAM thing? I think you are assuming the fact in the riddle rather than explaining/proving it...

| Indeed a great answer. However, it is written: 1 door closes, 9 open. When 9 close, 1 door opens. The answer would be totally correct if it was: 1 door closes, 9 open. When 9 are closed, 1 door is open. The difference is very small, but think about it

It is a horse (or dog) track. The 1 door = betting 9 doors = horse gates.

| This is a biblical riddle from the story of Solomon and Sheba... "What is it? An enclosure with ten doors; when one is open, nine are shut, and when nine are open, one is shut," Sheba asked Solomon. Solomon answered, "The enclosure is the womb, and the ten doors are the ten orifices of man, namely his eyes, his ears, his nostrils, his mouth, the apertures for discharge of excreta and urine, and the navel. When the child is still in its mother's womb, the navel is open, but all the other apertures are shut, but when the child issues from the womb the navel is closed and the other orifices are open."

| It may be from a story of Solomon and the Queen of Sheba (Sheba was the land she came from, not the lady's name), but it isn't biblical. The Bible gives no details about the riddles that she asked Solomon - it only mentions that she came to ask him many riddles after hearing of his wisdom, and that he was able to answer everything she asked.

I'm feeling like giving really stupid answers today, so i reckon it's a room with 10 doors and a messed up door lever so that door 1 opens when doors 2-10 shut and verse-vica(plz don't comment on verse-vica, like i said, really stupid answers.
