The more usual form (and I think somewhere on the site already, though as part of thread with more riddles), is: What walks on 4 legs in the morning, 2 legs through the day, and 3 legs in the evening. The answer is (since Barukh has already given it): man, who crawls as a babe (morning), walks upright through most of life (day), and uses a cane when elderly (evening).

Right. I had forgotten that. It amazes me how some obscure facts that I heard only once years ago stick with me, easily recalled, while others that I encounter repeatedly (such as this one) disappear without a trace. Be prepared to remind me of this again!
