6-1=12, 5+2 is shorter, next letter

A few separate riddlets (love that word) for you:
1) A word I know, six letters it contains.
Subtract just one, and twelve is what remains.
2) What is a five letter word which becomes shorter with two letters added onto it?
3) What is the next letter in the following sequence: W I T N L I T F _ ?

This is probably a stupid answer... but...
:: twelves only contains six letters (t,w,e,l,v,s) and you take away the 's' and you get twelve?! ::
By that same logic... :: short becomes shorter ::

That is one of the more uneducated answers ever. When you subtract one of what? it would actually make sense if you subtract the word "one" from the the six letter combination and get the combination of t,w,e,l,v,e remaining, if not in that order. Or, if you actually subtract one letter from the combination, you get t,w,e,l,v,e as well. It's people like you who make this world a dumber place in which to live. Maybe you should just go under a rock and hide the world from your stupidity so that it doesn't spread like a disease to drag every poor soul down with your dense head

If you remove one copy of O N E from the set of letters that the word contains, and are left with the letters T W E L V, (a number of copies each, not necessarily distinct) that means there must have been 7 different letters in the set. That's a violation of the original question which states this word contains six letters.
Of all the ways I can imagine to interpret this...
The word is six letters long
Examples: answer, dozens, stupid, idiots, murmur.
The word contains 6 different letters, thus is at least 6 letters long, but may be more.
Examples: Dozens, toggling, moronic, responses
The word comprises the letters s,i,x,l,e,t,t,e,r,s
Examples: I can't find any
The word contains the letters s,i,x,l,e,t,t,e,r,s and more
Example: extraterrestrials
There is only one of these interpretations that allow you to "remove one" leaving the rules of the puzzle unviolated.
Much of my working day is taken up teaching maths to little kids. At least when they get beaten by a puzzle, they don't sulk.

Annemiek, we are interested here in people who contribute to the conversation. Cathos contributes much. Your post contributes absolutely nothing. Far from fitting your description, Cathos has demonstrated intelligence (he is right, I believe about the intended answer being "dozens"). You, on the other hand, have demonstrated complete cluelessness on how to judge the worth of other people.
I have known many people of high intelligence, and many people of low intelligence. Quite frankly, on the whole the latter are often easier to work with and more enjoyable to be around, because they are far less likely to hold a over-inflated view of themselves.

Eleven + Two
Subtract one to get twelve.
So, it works two ways. But, there are seven different letters in the first part.
