Does each line describe the same thing, or is it like the "my first..." riddles?  Or is the form of the riddle part of the riddle itself?

Hello Cathos, the form is part of the riddle, but don't spend too much time worrying about that right away...

Make a stab at it, get your hands dirty and then I'll toss out some 'warmer-colder' hints.

Ok, here's some thoughts:

For the first line I was thinking spirit or soul, because that fills a body.  But I'm not sure if the line is reffering to "you" or "me".  If it's you, then maybe a body would be closer, or skin.  Maybe a baby still inside it's mother.  Maybe something very different.

The second line reminds me of Sysiphus, the old greek dude that pushed the bolder up the hill, but I don't think that's the right track.  My only other thoughts are something along the lines of shoes or feet, but I don't think that's fits well.

The third line leeds me back to skin or the body, which is mends itself if cut or torn.  I don't think it would refer to clothes or the like because it refers to "ills".

Okay, I wont say if you're right or wrong here... but you are doing soooo well that I want to mix things up a little and tell you that the riddle is built using 'homophones'.

So, with each line, does it create an answer that is a homophone?

And when you get the final answer, don't be mad, I just want to prolong the riddle a little.

And Cathos... good work on getting your hands dirty.

Just to be clear, the answer would be something like this?
First line:  Write
Second:   Right
Third:  Wright

Only they would fit the clues, right?

Okay... this is how the riddle is meant to work.

::
Part One:
You find the three answers to the three distinct lines.

Part Two:
These answers are each homophones (not with each other) that create three clues to the next part of the riddle.

Part Three:
When you figure out the next part (which is easy in this case) you then look at the original three lines of the riddle in relation to the answer to 'Part Two' to find the final answer to the riddle.

Answer:
You can do a litmus test with your answer if it fits the 'title' of the riddle.

Not sure, but I think "pulles up many hills" is probably a metaphor or some other sort of sybolism.

The first part, for what its worth
Made me think of oyster.
Nice idea to which clue gave birth
But- too soon to roister.

Further thought/ a mental tussel
Left me with one word- Mussel.

Sounds the same, but differently spelt
To the thing beneath my belt. Shocked

damn- this takes too much time,
trying to write my thoughts in rhyme.
But doing that has a hidden treasure-
At least my thoughts bring you pleasure.

Aahhh rhyme... so fine, so much time, my thoughts recline to every line. But how can I make her mine, this muse of clues hid deep in sign, if I cannot think up a crime?

My grammar finessing friend showed me a way I can make this little riddle a feather better, so please forgive my many revisions, here it is.

You are a shell my presence fills.

-------<<((O))>> -------

To pull a burden up steep hills.

-------<<((O))>> -------

Do this to mend my tattered ills.

and now for some hints....

First off, think of each of the lines as their own unique riddle. Cathos, you had some very good thoughts to start out with... and I didn't say you were wrong Roll Eyes I just wanted the riddle to be solved in the fashion it was designed in...

Secondly, remember that the answer to each riddle must be a homophone and that the alternate meanings to the three riddles have a common (obvious) relationship... Get that and I'll give you some more hints.

Finally, this riddle was meant to be very easy because it is an introduction to a new type of multi-level riddle. So if the answer seems too easy, it's probably correct.

Ok... I had about five different guesses, but that narrows it down a little.

I think I'm getting pretty close:
Number one is soul (I think), as it's the only guess I had that's a homonym - sole, like in a shoe, and you can shoe something away ('shoe fly!' Is that spelled correctly?) which fits the title.  Incidently, I mentioned a shoe in my guesses for the secode line, though I don't know if that's an answer.  The revised line leads me to believe it's 'body', but I don't know of any homonyms for that.

The third line could be sew, which you would do to a tattered garment.  That rhymes with soul, which probably isn't important, but it's also a homonym for so.  You could also darn socks, which I guess is a homonym for (darn it!).

Maybe the answer is something a nihilist might exclaim, or a disgruntled cobbler - "Darn sole/soul, shoe!"

"Darn sole/soul, shoe!"  Grin

Okay, soul is correct...

Shoe/Shoo (correct spelling) is, I have to admit the actual answer to the whole riddle. You've guessed it twice so I can't deny it any longer... but lets take a look at how I wanted you to get there, so next time you know how this works.

You are a shell my presence fills. = "soul" == "sole"

  ------- <<((O))>> -------

To pull a burden up steep hills. = "tows" == "toes"

  ------- <<((O))>> -------

Do this to mend my tattered ills. = "heal" == "heel"

  --------------------------

From sole, toes, heel we get FOOT... yes?!

Then from FOOT we look at the original three clues and get SHOE (hopefully).

The litmus test of SHOE/SHOO is correct for the title and the answer to the riddle.

You just skipped the middle step (no pun intended) which I wanted you to find first so you would get a sense of how the game is played.

I just couldn't keep you guessing having gotten the final answer twice, even if you skipped a step.

Stay tuned for another one of these. Probably tomorrow afternoon.

I have one that is just a little harder but works the same way. Then when you get that, I’ll pull out the big guns. I just want to proof this next one a little longer so I won’t have to revise it in the middle of the guessing like I’ve been doing lately.
