My first are raven plumes...

My first are raven plumes dipped deep in inky well, and shades of buried tombs concealed by darkest spell. The caves of ancient things whose shadows bare no light, and blood of fallen kings when seen spilt in the night. My second, written runes, so many meanings tell, and folded word cocoons, some hint of perfume smell. Or gaudy-shiny rings that keep flesh free from plight, a weave wore by past kings when vested in their might. My whole, a threat that looms, if any of it tells, to one a certain doom and one this secret fell. A consequence it brings, should viewed by other's sight, a bounty fit for kings to free this thing held tight. ??? ~Raven

That is very well written. My first guess: black death, the plague. I don't think that's it, but hopefully I am on the right track at least.

Getting there... If you get to a point you want a hint: If you notice the "My second" is a "one or the other" scenario… The "other" part being the more direct path to success.

This one is tricky. I gather you're talking about something written in a book, then hint at armor, but I think that is just meant to throw us off. Maybe a tome and/or tomb, a pun? Usually the obvious answer is not correct. I think it has something to do with death, maybe an eulogy being written..

Good riddle, - There is a lot I like about it. TEXT HIDDEN TO AVOID SPOILERS :: The meter and rhyme are perfect as was in your other riddle. The "My first," "My second," and "My whole" is a good way to tell the reader that your dealing with a compound word. I'd suggest grouping the riddle into three stanzas of 4 lines each where each one starts with "My ____". This will emphasize the compound nature of the answer as well as make the riddle easier to view/read. (the double spacing after each line is kinda ugly looking) Personally, I'm not crazy about the metaphors again. While raven feathers, and ink are traditionally black by nature, the use of the word "ARE" implies a plural word, as well as a literal feather dipped in ink. I also thought some of the rest of the "My first" clues could use some work. The use of the word "things" seems a bit of a cop-out, and can mislead the reader into focusing on specific things that you might be talking about. "WHOSE shadows bare no light" sounds fine lyrically, but if you think about it ALL shadows bare no light. Also, while it's true that blood seen at night will be black, however, blood is traditionally associated with the color red, so the use of it in the riddle is IMHO a bit of an unfair ... red herring. The "MY second" and the "My whole" clues, are very well done. Once the answer is thought of, these clues really fit nicely. They gave me that joyous epiphany feeling I get when I first uncover a correct answer to a good riddle. P.S. My first thought was that the answer might be "foreshadowing", but the first clues were for the second part, and "fore" didn't seem to fit the other set no matter how I tried to rationalize it. Since shadow was used in the riddle text - it got me combing through a thesaurus to see if there was a similar word that escaped my vocabulary.

Yes, Cathos got it… If any should want one last hint: The answer is one word, not a phrase. or, "some hint of perfume smell." is a big clue Now I have to write another one...
