Five hundred begins it, five hundred ends it, Five in the middle is seen; First of all figures, the first of all letters, Take up their stations between. Join all together, and then you will bring Before you the name of an eminent king.

The answer to this puzzle will land you in the lion's den.

Or perhaps in a cave somewhere hiding from the treacherous king Saul.

Definitely not. Let me elaborate Otter, you've got your D's mixed up. Daniel was the one thrown in with the lions, by King Nebuchadnezzar when he refused to bow down and worship him. (By the way this same king spent seven years in the wild after going mad, before he repented before God and came back to his senses.) David on the other hand was a king of Israel, the same man who wrote the book of Psalms and gave life to his son Solomon, who wrote the book of Proverbs ( which I highly recommend). And we've all heard of Solomon and his wisdom, which by the way was granted to him as a gift from God after the Lord asked him what one thing he desired of Him. Because he didn't ask for riches or self-gratification of any sort, God blessed him many times over.

| You and Icarus are, of course, quite right. My bad. I knew the correct answer was David, but my bible history memory circuits suffered a meltdown. Next time, I'll concentrate more on the correct answer than trying to be cute with a hint.
