I am a city in the USA, but I am also a monk inside of a musical instrument. What city am I?

Not sure which city, but with a description like that it ought to be in California.

No, it's not in California, and it is one word. And it is a city, not a small town.

A hint: if the name of the musical instrument is INSTRUMENT, and the name of the monk is MONK, the city name is something like INSTRUMONKMENT. Another hint: there are too many words for musical instruments of the world, but much fewer words for monks of religions of the world.

Is this some obscure musical instrument or a common one? I looked thru lists of US cities and can't find one that resembles an instrument in it's name, I'm sure I am missing something.

The instrument is quite common, I've seen it in musical stores. I'd think it is hard to recognize a word that is split apart, so focus on a word for monk first.

A hint: the city in question is the seat of the eponymous county.
