I am worshiped and cursed, Loved and lost, pure and corrupt, black and white. I am animal, vegetable, mineral. What am I?

Also, my answer doesn't seem to fit with:

correct - what golden flame, marigold (type of flower), of goldfish can tell. Crassus and Montazuma died of poisoning by drinking liquid gold.
